Question What should I upgrade first?

I'm looking for advice on what to upgrade first. What should I get?
I have about $300 to spend.

MB: ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7600K CPU @ 3.80GHz (4 CPUs)
Memory: 2x G. Skill F4-3200C16-8GVK
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Drive: SSD Crucial_CT275MX300SSD4 (have 2 other drives)

I'm looking to eventually max out this motherboard

What do you mean max out?

The best you can do on that mobo is an i7-7700K, which are way to expensive on the used market. Realistically they should be around 100 USD used but people seem to think that their worth 200-300, which in 2020 a 4 core 8 thread CPU is not anything special.


You could upgrade your GPU to something like a 1660 Super/ti, RX5600XT or RX5700. Or you could look around on the used market for a GTX1070 which are under 200, 1070ti which are going for around 200 or alittle more or might even find a 1080 for around 300.

Max out CPU
Bring the Gpu to a point where it’s not a bottleneck

I was thinking of getting a 1660

Well, looks like it won’t be worth it. I’ll just save up some more and start a whole new build.
