Using road runner I can't connect even though It says connected at 100mbps. When I go to the command prompt in XP and type in ipconfig/release it cuts my connection to 10 mbps.I have turned off the fire wall"SP2" and tried making a new connection.I have it detecting the setting automatic.It just says cannot find server. Can anyone be of help. I also typed in ipconfig/renew. Nothing. Thanks Bruce

Is your PC connected directly to the DSL modem or are you going thru a router?

I'm with road runner cable not DSL. I run from a modem to a router to my main PC and it works. Then to the 2nd pc from the router which works then to the third PC from the router and it can't find server.It says it is connected and at 100mbps.I have tried every thing but nothing works.It should work like the others with cable and XP they connect with no problem. My mistake, I thought Roadrunner was DSL for some reason. :redface:

In either case, go to the PC that won't connect and find out what the IP address and Gateway are set to. Either IPConfig or the Support tab from the network connection status will tell you.

Also tell me what the addresses are of the other 2 PCs.

Also check the router's config to make sure the DHCP range is wide enough, and that it isn't filtering mac addresses or blocking the 3rd pc somehow.

The address of the pc working is 192.168.0.100 and the one not working 192.168.0.102. bruce

Ok, so its getting an IP from the router. Is there anything in the router config that could be blocking the computer? Like a filter of some sort?

Does it get a connection if its the only PC turned on? If it does, does the 3rd PC turned on get blocked every time, or is it just this PC for whatever reason?

If only 2 PCs can connect at any one time, I wonder if RR has some sort of block on multiple PC's. Are you using MAC address cloning on the router?

If its only that PC that doesn't connect under any circumstances.... hmmm... Try to ping a few places - first the router (192.168.0.1), then one of the DNS addresses, then some website (tomshardware.com, microsoft.com, wherever). If that goes thru, then its likely a software problem on the PC - reinstall IE/Firefox/your browser of choice.
