They are trying to help. A crap PSU can literally kill your whole pc if it fails and failures are far too common with this type of unit. That will cost you a lot more money than a reasonable quality unit.

They go beyond the original question as many people don't know the right questions to ask.

do you need a 750W power supply? what are your specs? unless you are running 2 GPU's and a 220W cpu you will not need that much power.
the cx series by corsair, (grey label) are great power supplies.

a nice 550W power supply will do you just fine.
I estimate that system only uses 300W max
95 Watts for the CPU
75 for the GPU
leaving 130W for everything else
either get a seasonic s12II/M12II 520W m for modular or the Cx550 550W

Most standard form PSUs will support SLI/CXF...giving you ample power connections.

a brand new i7 7700k and a 1080ti card will work with a 550W power supply. observe.

not a real system build (please keep critique to yourself), just an example to show that newer parts are more power efficient than older parts. Barring needing 2 GPU's 550-600W will do the job handily

I love a bit of over provisioning, but almost triple what you will actually be using is overkill in even my book. 550-650 will do

QUIET ARTIC BLUE 750W considered an unbranded generic PSU. Avoid, you're going to have to spend more to get something of good quality.

While I'm usually opposed to judging power supplies on a tier by tier basis, this one definitely belongs in tier 5.

Unstable output at 150W, very unstable output at a mere 250W, potential fire hazard above 300W. Note that this does not mean it's guaranteed not to explode under 300W.

CX IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOUR CURRENT PSU , but I would go a little higher on the quality.

Blackbird, he's running a 95W CPU and a 1050 ti. A 450W power supply should be plenty. Also, the CX450M is on sale at Newegg.

Before you ask me "WHY" .. im currently rocking the Artic alpine 750W which is very known to screw stuff up.. im legit having issues with lights in my house just because of this thing and people say its known to blow up/break after short ammount of time.. so..

Yeah, just make sure you get the one with the gray label and not the green one. The gray label ones are actually pretty high quality

Yes, a 550w would be enough for what you have or up to a 1060.

This is why we are so adament on this forum for people to get a quality power supply, it is the heart of your and going cheap on it can cost you hundreds of dollars in damaged parts.

Looks like an extremely light load to me, 1050Ti and some CPU. I'd get a 450W PSU over a 550W PSU and save money.

450W PSUs aren't worth it if you ever plan on upgrading to more powerful graphics cards, you're saving $10 at the cost of limiting yourself to the GTX x60 cards and under. If you don't plan on upgrading past that then I guess it's fine

I disagree. You should be able to run a GTX 1080 and a normal CPU as long as you don't overclock past reasonable capabilities of the power supply.

Plus if he only has the money for a cheap GPU now, why should we assume he's going to rack up $1000 for some crazy high-end GPU anyway? Chances are when he decides to upgrade down the line in like 3 years he'll upgrade to a similar-tier GPU. PC builders don't just suddenly become rich.
