I am looking to buy a new video card. I want to spend around 150 canadian so that has left me with options of the Ati Radeon 7200, asus 7100 pro 64 mb (gforce 2 mx400), Hercules 3D Prophet Kyro II 4500 AGP. I am not sure wich is the best for me. I have a athalon 1600XP with 256 mb ddr ram. I have also read about the gforce cards with ddr ram and was wondering what card would come with that option so I could check the price of it.

Even though you probably don't want to hear this.. My suggestion is to save your money for a higher end card. It'll be worth it.

OC my Radeon 8500? k
CPU: 285, 295, 305
memory: 510, 520, 530
what was that?

i was facing a similar decision not too long ago, but i decided i didnt need to eat so jumped for a GF3Ti200 instead... the benchmarks (plus extra visual features) are so much higher the extra cash seemed worth it, i can think about CDRW for xmas maybe.

i'm no expert but from what i picked up doin my purchase research the Herculese Kryo II seemed the best bet out of that lot, though the lack of hardware T&L on the board gave me a few doubts. if you can though i think itd be worth it even for a GeForce 2 Pro - might be worth having a look at the ATI 7500 too, though i havent heard much about it (they all just go on about the 8500, as if most people have that sort of money for a graphics card)

The kryo is not a viable option anymore, I think for the small amount you pay extra a gf2 pro or 7500 is much more powerful.

The Asus 7100 pro 64 mb will be the fastest. After a slight overclock to around 260/260, it'll be nearly as fast as a 64MB GTS. The kyro II will be faster in some cases but nvidia cards have more frequent driver updates.

I have also added the Asus 7700 pure 32 mb card with ddr ram as an option. The problem is I need a new card in the next week or two. Ati Radeon 8500 is $450, Radeon 7500 is $300, the Asus 8200 Pure Gforce 3 is $450. All those cards are over my budget at the moment. I cant figure out if a GeForce 2 GTS board with 32 mb is faster than a MX 400 with 64 mb.

yes GTS is faster than mx 400, because bottleneck not in a memory size but in speed of a memory.

I also live in canada toronto are:)
if you are on a low budget then i recommend to buy kyro 2 then geforce mx 400
kyro 2 has no hardware t&l support but i would not effect your gaming performance pretty much
second thing you can try buy your stuff from www.pricewatch.com it is cheaper than buying it from your local store

I am also in Toronto :)

I can get the GTS board for only $15 more than the MX400 so I will be getting the GTS. Regarding pricewatch; is it not all in US funds?
