How have you determined the motherboard is the problem, and not the display connector or the display itself?
Typically, motherboards don't just stop sending a display via one connector. If the motherboard was damaged, I'd expect you'd have more issues than just a non-functional laptop display.
If the panel itself hasn't suffered any damage, you're probably looking at a damaged ribbon connector (connects the MB to panel). They can be under stress when opening/closing a laptop, as they're routed via the hinge. Probably the most common element to 'fail'.
