Hello, I am trying to update the BIOS on my 8.1 notebook by flashing. When I extracted the .zip folder of the download to a folder, this is what I get.

What am I supposed to do with this? Do I create a bootable drive from this? I have looked everywhere for what a .214 file type is but I have had no luck. This is from the ASUS website for the Q550LF drivers and the name of the file is BIOS 214.

214 is the firmware revision

File extensions are just a hint to the user / operating system as to what program the file should be used with, or what it contains.

In this case, Asus has simply decided not to follow convention, which is to name firmware images with a file extension such as .ROM, or...
I would not recommend flashing/updating your BIOS on your own. Consult with ASUS techs if it is safe and necessary to do it. By doing this update w/o proper information you can completely wipe your BIOS and the installation of the new one can fail. In other words you may end up with laptop that cant boot up at all

Unless there is a step by step guide on the process of flashing this laptop bios found on the ASUS website or forums, then I would do as Vesp3r suggests and enlist some help from ASUS support. you don't want to brick your laptop with a bad bios flash.

You should be able to update the firmware using the Asus Update tool by simply pointing it to the extracted file. Alternatively, most modern Asus motherboards and notebooks support updating the firmware through the BIOS/UEFI setup.

I recommend using the Asus Update tool.

EDIT: Here's a link to the Windows firmware updater for that notebook
