Hey guys, I wanted to buy a gaming monitor for myself and I had several questions when looking at what to buy. First off, what should be the most important aspect to someone who is planning to use it solely for games and web browsing? I assume refresh rate is the most important so I was just going to buy a 1080, 24 inch, 144Hz monitor, however I was just curious if I should instead focus on resolution and the actual size. Panel type is not needed to be discussed as I decided as long as its TN or VA, I will get it.

Here are two 144Hz monitors Im looking at, which should I get?

Read this post it might help you out picking the right monitor

What games do you consider playing? If it’s a First person shooter or things like that, prioritize refresh rate. If it’s something that involves an open world/adventure style game, maybe try for resolution. But of course, don’t go completely resolution, you’ll want to get AT LEAST 30 FPS.

I dont have an AMD gpu but it still seems like a good deal to me regardless in all honestly. I might have to check it out in person because the curved feature might not be good for me but Im curious why I should not get it

That is a good point. I am most likely playing fighting games and/or some shooters casually. I play random games but I just dont want to be limited by my choice.

In fact I'd say that it's the better option even if you don't have an AMD card, in case you do have one in the future. Also the presence of DP is preferred in book,

I don't see a reason not to get it although the curve may be off putting as the screen is only 24", if you can see it in person before buying then that would be good. Personally I enjoy ultra wide (21:9) but would only recommend if your games support it natively.

Can’t quote, but to the op, considering the info already given about MSI monitors and the freesync tech, consider a 1080p monitor that gets around 144hz. You can go higher if you want, but not necessary. Try to add freesync technology if possible, maybe vsync technology if you can’t. You can still getaway with no synchronization tech.

EDIT: Id still get a regular 16:9 monitor. You’ll probably have to wait a bit until most, if not, all games natively Support ultrawide, so save some cash. Great for multitasking right now, not so much for gaming...

Well regardless, it’s a long term investment. If the OP were to upgrade, say, after this crypto rush, the monitor would be good. A 1060 6gb with a latest gen i3 (that’s probably a minimum) could hold up 144fps in shooter games.

EDIT: It’s odd, but my Pentium G4560 and gtx 1050 can hold at least 100 FPS in rocket league...just saying.

Im running with a 1060 6gb and an i5 8400 so I think it has more than enough power. I just wanted to ensure that Im picking what I buy correctly

a little tweak here and there would do the 144fps trick, like what they said monitors tends to be upgraded less often than gpu..

There are only 3 notable differences to consider between these 2 monitors:
- Curvature
- FreeSync
- DisplayPort

Curvature is subjective from person to person (I don't care either way), FreeSync is great for an AMD card but both have a 144Hz refresh rate so that point is moot, but that missing DisplayPort on the Acer is a complete deal breaker in my book. I won't even consider a monitor that doesn't have one.

Also note, both HDMI's on these monitors is only HDMI 1.4. So using the HDMI port will only support 1080p at 120Hz max. If you want to run at 144Hz on the Acer, you will have to use a DVI cable to reach the 144Hz capability.
Whereas the DisplayPort on the MSI (v 1.2) can support 1080p at 240Hz.
