Hello, i recently went on the Microsoft website and downloaded the windows 10 installation tool. Upon installation it asked me what version of windows i prefer and the options were.
Windows 10
Windows 10 home single language
I picked "Windows 10". Now my question is, if i were to buy a product key how am i supposed to know if it'll be home or pro if it just says "Windows 10". Please help

Solution

Windows 10 will install but not activate if you upgrade from an unactivated Windows 7. There is no key for the Windows 10 upgrade only the Full pack Windows 10 retail and OEM .

No. You'd be trying to use 1 license on 2 different systems.

1 license, 1 PC.

Actual 4 different version when ya do windows 10 with the media creation tool ya got home and pro 32 and 64 bit . Shit more than that it be 8 then
Cause there's a check box mod something last time I downloaded it there a way version for each of those . Eu filled windows couldn't have media player and and internet explorer and crap preinstalled forgot about that

There are currently 3 and only 3 ways to get Windows 10 on a PC.

1. Upgrade from a qualifying OS (Win 7 or 8.1) that currently exists on that system
2. Clean install of Win 10, using a valid, qualifying, unused license key (Win 7/8/8.1)
3. Purchase a valid WIn 10 install. About $100 or so.

This reduces to 1 option (#3) as of next weekend.

oh ok. i can do this
2. Clean install of Win 10, using a valid, qualifying, unused license key (Win 7/8/8.1)
i have 2 windows 7 professional product keys. will they work on windows 10 home?

When you install the upgrade it checks to see if you have a authentic Windows 7 or 8.1. During this process it know whether your 7 or 8.1 is Home or Pro. Then it activates Windows 10 and store the home or pro in the Digital Entitlement process. So when you do a clean install it checks the MS servers for you activation and will install Home or Pro based on that. Now new with the Anniversary Update Aug 2 the Digital Entitlement will be tied to your MS Account. Previously it was only tied to your machine and not you. This will help eliminate activation issues 1. If you had a motherboard failure and replaces the mobo with the same one and 2. If you did an anytime upgrade from Home to Pro after Windows 10 was activated with Win 10 Home.

ok, ill try that windows 7 thing. but i have one concern. i moved an hdd from my old pc to my new pc and when i start up windows 7 at the bottom right it says "this copy of windows is not genuine" and when i enter any key it doesnt work. i dont want this to happen when i do a clean install of windows 7.
