What will happen if i use a GPU with a VRAM that has the same value as my system memory?

Hello everyone. Since I am not really experienced in the GPU and memory department, I wanted to ask for some advice.

I am thinking of buying AMD's RX 480 card, the 8GB variant. However, my current system memory, RAM, is an equal value of 8GB.

What i wish to know is, will this impact my system? Will the GPU affect the overall performance negatively because of that? Is there any way to limit the GPU's VRAM usage?
