What would be a good cooler for amd athlon x2 6000?

Right...it's cheap as sin(as far as good performing HS/F's go), fairly quiet, and not like mounting a 48oz juice can(size/weight) to your mobo. Performs well too.

I picked up mine for $20+5. It was right after the price was up near $80 for those. I think its sitting at $30+5 at the Egg now. Still a good deal.

You don't really need a fancy cooler for a 6000+ since you're not going to be able to do much overclocking with that processor anyway. I ended up purchasing a Thermaltake Silent Boost RX K8 for my 5200+ just to reduce sound levels ($25 at Fry's) and I'm very pleased with it.

I like my zalman, but thats just me. It was a little more money, but if your going top end you may as well get a good cooler. Maybe try the 9700 version if the little extra noise doesn't bother you, and the massive thing will fit in your case

PS. Why you buying a x2 6000 with barcelona around the corner? If you have to buy now, get a x2 3600 and overclock it to crazyness, maybe even up to the 3ghz you got there, but more likely 2.6-2.9.

I'm pretty sure the Freezer 64 Pro performs about as well as the 9500 and 9700, but at 1/2 to 1/3 the cost. It's just a bit louder.

What kind of temps are you getting with your PC? I'm rather interested in this cooler, but from what I have read, its not all that much better than the stock AMD 4 heatpipe cooler.....

It's already clocked to the max from the factory, it's not like paying out the butt for a powerful air cooler is going to yield him any extra performance. If he's not happy with the stock cooler, he should just get something cheap and quiet that gets the job done.

I also reccomend the Arctic cooling 64 freezer pro. Ive been using mine for a year or so on my s939 4200x2 which is OC'd to 2.6ghz. It stays col and queit even under heavy loads. I did alot of research before buying this cooler and it was definitly the best bang for the buck. It performs as good as the $50 coolers for almost half the money, what more do you want!

I agree with Aero on this one. The Zalman is twice as much and performs only marginally better. Nice if you like lights and $$ to blow.

Cool! (No, really!) I've seen this cooler at retail (brick & mortar) for around $32, and published reviews for it are very good. Never used one but I know it must work. $20 is a steal!

Go liquid or don't bother you're not going to overclock on air period. The chip is maxed out on heat at stock speed.

i suggest a 1/2 horse sump pump with a 4 gallon reserve - inch and quarter line should do it.

get the 8lb cpu cooler so you can overclock it 10%

For that size pump something more like a 55 gallon drum of coolant would be more appropriate.
BTW, who said anything about overclocking?

This review on frostytech.com shows both the AMD 4 pipe cooler and the Arctic cooling 64 freezer pro. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1962&page=5
A close look shows that the Arctic beats the stock by about 6 degrees when the stock fan is on low. However, when the stock kicks up to high, which is REALLY LOUD, it actually bests the Arctic by 5 degrees. If you already have the 4 pipe cooler, I would suggest just buying a good 70 mm fan to replace the stock one, and you should be good to go, and likely for much less than a new heatsink.
