Concise summary:
My PC is ko'd and I suspect it to be either the motherboard or ssd.
That being said I planned to do an upgrade since they are both about 8 years old at this point. Unfortunately that will also mean replacing my current ram and processor which are still working pretty well for me.
I have worked out more or less what I'm looking to buy but I'm far less certain around the cpu. I want something that isn't a step down from my current processor, and that will ideally last around 2 years before I have to consider another upgrade. I've not bought any of the new components yet so if I've made any glaringly bad choice let me know, but I feel pretty happy with it.

To give some context I will occasionally be doing multiple things at once such as processing short videos while playing a game, which my current processor handles admirably. I also play a lot of strategy games which can utilise my processor quite heavily for managing the ai decisions etc.
I'm running at 1080p at the moment though will likely be moving up within a year or so, it would be good to avoid any significant constarints there though I believe the main one would be my current graphics card.
I don't generally tinker with overclocking much as I haven't found it necessary for what I'm doing.
The motherboard I have chosen doesn't support sli as well which I'm not overly concerned about.
Would look to cap at around £300 for the processor.
Was considering the i7 8700, if anyone can suggest whether this is a good fit or if there's a more appropriate choice for what I've specified above please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help
