ok. The cpu would be fine in bf3 multiplayer even if it was a phenom x4 965 BE lol. the gpu is what will really be a pain. and i can upgrade further down the road. id rather go with the cheapest best solution for playing modern games on at least med

This isn't really true. The CPU is VERY stressed in multiplayer. More so than basically any other game ever. There WILL be a NOTICEABLE difference between an i3 and an i5. Battlefield 3 is coded for 4 cores unlike most games. The i5 will blow away the i3 or phenom II x4 965.

For 500$ you won't get much better than an i3, the thing is the i3 doesn't bottleneck the 7770 or 7850 even on BF3 multiplayer, you need a better card for it at certain resolution as well.
So at mid settings 720p an i3 is more than suffice, the i3 will bottleneck the mid/high end card in BF3 mp, but not a 7770 or 7850.
See here for cpu bf3 benchmark mp : http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Battlefield-3-PC-221396/Specials/Battlefield-3-Multiplayer-Tipps-CPU-Benchmark-1039293/
That was with a 680 GTX card.
For 500 get the i3+7850 1GB, i posted a link above with a one within 500$, this one : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BxW7

alright this should be my last question lol.
Just based on this build would there be any bottlenecking and would there be any game I would have trouble running? Also can you give me a small list of modern games i can run a semi good graphics at 60 fps or higher?

Here's a list with the 7850 1GB :

This is a solid build. Different than mine but very good for the money. I would do this.
