I've got a spare SAS drive I want to use on my desktop PC. I don't need to run it in RAID or anything, it's just going to be a single storage drive. I've looked for SAS controllers on ebay but they vary wildly in price and specs. Some even require DRAM and a battery which sounds like a hybrid RAM disk to me. I've also read from reviews that some of the SAS controllers are chipset specific and won't just work on any ordinary PC. So what exactly is a proper, basic and preferably cheap SAS controller I can use for a hard drive that'll simply be used as a single storage drive?
