What would you get if you could? I don't necesarily mean to ask what you'd buy among existing products. I mean, what kind of things do you wish were available? I've asked local dudes and some of them talk about faster CPUs or graphics cards, etc. I could easily toss three items on my short list: 1) Radically faster hard drives 2) Much faster Internet access 3) A dream case with integrated killer PS and bombproof cooling system.

Oops, I forgot the most important item: Incredible OS and app improvements...

I would like to see(dream on) a machine(hardware & Software) that would go click click through anything I ask of it, no matter what I added to it! [Hey, they came out with optical mice, so now I don't have to clean that little ball anymore].

A dual 64-bit 6.4GHz Intel dual core 30nm processor with 2x2x8MB cache that is overclockable to around 70% over stock on passive air cooling; 85% on active cooling; 110% with H2O cooling, and 16 gigs of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM being fed by 2x8x150GB quad head 15kRPM VRaptors in RAID1+0 for data speed and security along with a 128GB battery backed RAM drive for boot and swapfile.

Since you asked about things that I "wish were available"

1. A VERY stable OS system that was widely used with no compatibility problems. Not just a new OS. Just made better.

2. Instant on Computer (for everyone)

3. I agree with free Terabyte internet access for everyone and all servers to have Terabyte per second upload/download access.

4. Ability to play any game on multiple screens.

5. Some sort of new user interface for accessing data and games on your computer. Voice recognition.

6. New way to store data. Like on a crystal or something that can not be damaged.

I think that's what you were looking for? Did I leave anything out?

I would like hard drives to be replaced with those new iRAM solid state 'hard drives', but with a few hundred TB/s bandwidth (who needs memory when you can have a XDRAM 'hard drive'?!).

Quad core AMD/Intel socket-whatever microprocessors with software to match (virtually unlimited number of applications running at one time at full speed), and seperate crossbars and memory controllers for each core.

Quad memory banks of 32GB(2x16) - one set of XDRAM memory dedicated for each CPU core.

Dual/quad core 2GHz GPUs with up to 1024MB of onboard DDR4 memory running at 2.3-3.0Ghz and available in SLI or Crossfire. I'm not a big fan of the dual GPU video cards.

Dual layer blu-ray disc burners.

Some new higher definition LCD monitor with a native resolution of 4 mega pixels, and of at least 28" in viewable screen size.

Mmmmm.. Dual 1kW PSUs.. Computers will use so much electricity one day that the thought of even switching one on would be unthinkable.

ummmm . . .
X1900 XTX + X1900 Cross Fire = 2x X1900
4Gb (4x1Gb) Dual DDR 400
AMD FX-60
(Dont Know The Mobo 😳 😳 )
Lots of SATA II HDD
ummmm . . .
I Think That Enough For Me 😀

Since no-one know what the future holds, I'd stick with a dual processor Opteron 285 System with 16GB RAM a RAID 1+0 Raptor 150 array, an X1900XTX, and of course free internet porn for all!

A better dual core like FX or Conroe and graphics card like 7900 or X1900XTX or better. Still not sure because there's always new and better stuff comes out every 6 months so I'll have to see it next year. Hopefully by then quad core would be out on the market in time some of the highly anticipated games comes out as well. 😀

oh man on the official website, were the screenshots taken of the beta version or something? cos the textures don't look so good, or is that cos its based on the doom3 engine?..

well here's my list 😛

some multi processor of cell architecture(the ps3 processor) available for computer

some solid state iram dirves with therabytes of capacity a faster wireless internet acess(i hate cables)
and last but not the least some stable and secure Os that you wouldn't need to hava anti-virus or anti spyware software to delay you

Quad X1900XTX,
quad, quad core Opteron
100gb of dual channel RAM
two 999999RPM Raptor Ultimate hard drives in RAID 0

Man I'd need some Prozac if my buddy had that rig and I was still back here in reality. And he'd need like 16 arms and 144 brains to get the thing up to half load.

I'll be modest here. I wish for 12 month life expectancy for any new graphics technology as it was in the good ol days. If that happens, the rest of my dream list will be trivial....

I'd want a decent graphics card, but most importantly, MRAM! That looks to be the future. In fact, theoretically MRAM could elminate the need for RAM at all... or is that just wishful thinking?

 By that time SM6.0 will be out. All I'm saying is that the fast pace of releasing new gcard tech really is tiresome to keep up. Many people do not see it in this light, and to date I've kept up well. But let's remember that the majority pc gamers aren't Donald Trump, and a saturation point will come where no one actually wants to keep up in the mass consumer sector. And without a mass sector being driven hard or selling equipment, why should the PC market then continue to exist? It's a very harsh and shot in the wind theory.

Also, another point would be the reason behind releasing SM3.0 only to be superceded by SM4.0 within 12 months where only a handful of games really ventured into SM3.0? That is a waste, and I really think that the move to SM4.0 is something MS is driving, cos if it wasn't for VISTA, then SM3.0 would've been explored more with HDR/Paralax Mapping etc.

Just my view and food for thought.

My real wishlist : the processing power behind the creation of CGI movies ie Ice Age etc in one gcard! I might be wrong, but I heard that quite a few GPU's are run in parallel when rendering such movies.

Solid state storage to the tune of 100+gb plus (ie no moving parts, and accesss times like memory) would be my number one wish-invention.

A bl0w j0b with no string attached would be second :)

I dream of a better data delivery system to replace the antiquated hard drive technology available now. The PCI-e card with the 4 memory banks is a great start, however with the current capacity of memory modules I would need a card with at least 24 available slots. This would cure most problems PC's face, such as long load times or the general feeling of it not being "snappy" enough.

Since I'm dreaming and all, I could go on about how I wished I had quad display cards along with quad channel memory and quad core processors, quad this, quad that, but I'd be a happy camper with just dramatically improving the data transfer speed. Oh, and maybe a 32gbps internet connection...that'd be nice too. 🙂

I dont see how you win.

One of the guys said a reliable Windows OS, you said Hollodeck.

We've all seen a hollodeck on TV. When we've all seen a reliable Microsoft OS then......

:)

Instant ON
Universal Storage
Unlimited (or close to it) space
Processing power to put NASA to shame
A GPU that would still play games 10 years from now
Not having to upgrade it at all (or not as nearly as much as today)
Quiet!
A reliable OS that can't crash, and is fit to my needs.

The list goes on, infinitely I think, but for now I'm done.
