I mean really what is with AMD, why don't they advertise like Intel does? Intel's commercials may be stupid, lame, retared, or all of the above, but they get their message out to the everyday person.

(this is a question that i have had for a while but just never asked, lol)

Let's say you have a wonderful product you'd like the world to know about, but all you've got in your pocket to promote it is 1 dollar. What would do?

They actually advertise alot in a variety of magazines. One's I've noticed recently are Pop Sci, Newsweek, PC Mag, PC World, Time and prolly others I don't have time to read. As for TV spots, I don't think they have enough cash to do that really, so they're doing it on print!

I would do what MS did and spend millions I never had in hopes to create sales I never exspected to see.
Just a though.

That's something that might have worked in the 80s. There were no software Goliath then (not that I remember, off the top of my head) for MS to mess with. It was another time, not to be compared with the current state of IT business.

the worst thing is that, apart from all the advertising intel fund for themselves, they get loads of free advertsing because they are the only known cpu manufacturer to those who don't know computers and the mainstream press.i can't tell you how many times i have seen people recommend intel to others because they don't know intel.i am a supporter of amd but i am trying not to be biased, i just think that the simple public should be mad aware of amd so they can make an informed decision about whose cpu they want.

I read that more people voted online for American Idol than voted for the recent US elections. I guess it's asking too much for consumers to be informed about processor choices.

Yeah but the votes were mostly thanks to auto-dialers which could ring in over 1000 votes in an hour!

hey, when money talks, everybody seems to listen!
so whoever wins this processor race stands to earn tons of money!
but eventually, it is us end-users who will benefit from it all 'cause we get to enjoy all their products! i just wish they could lower the prices of their stuff, though!

They sponsor a team in the premiership in the UK, which is watched by millions of people all over the world.
but why choose blackburn rovers aHAAhahaahahhAAA.

yeah maybe money is tight now, but when they first released the Athlon, i mean come on!! lol, i think that they could have dont a much better job than what they did, and as far as advertising on TV goes, i see local ma and pa store advertising. their commercials maybe cheesy, retarded, stupid, or all of the above, but they get their name out.

I think that Intel's marketing is meant more to keep Intel customers loyal rather than convert the alternative bunch. Intel puts their name all over the television so that people will know the name. When Jo Blo calls up Dell and wants to buy a PC he will probably ask "Uhhh so I get a good Pentium IV right?" Dell would lose so much business if they started offering something different. A company like Dell lives of its reputation Back in the day Dell was a bad ass company that could make computers that work. There service and quality has been slipping and there prices are still as high as they used to be. I guess my point is that Intel markets to the public to put pressure on big clients like Dell to only use Intel products. Intle is not trying to change the public's way of thinking. They are just trying to keep it loyal.

AMD on the other hand derives more of its revenues from the technically educated than Intel does. It may be an awful sterotype, but I believe that there is a higher percentage of technically educated people in the AMD camp. In order to keep these customers, AMD needs to deliver performance. Not some fancy shmancy commercial.

AMD needs to completely change peoples way of thinking in order to get converted customers. Right now, they don't really have the goods to back it up. They also don't have the support of major clients like Dell.

I have no idea how it is all going to turn out, but it has been fun to witness. It is like watching a TV drama lol... next season on "AMD and the Restless"

Personally, I like the fact that they are not sinking too much cash in advertising. All that does is inflate the cost of processors that then gets put on the consumer. It's just my opinion. If Intel didn't advertise so aggressively, maybe their processors can compete with AMD as far as price goes. For me, word of mouth and fourms like this are the best kind of advertising.

I'm pretty technically inclined, and I noticed that the P4 was more overclockable and I could get more performance from P4 than athlon....That's a decision based on the technology......It doesnt seem to me that Athlon buyers are more tech inclined. Especially when I see threads like "My XP Fried!" at least every other day if not more often. It seems most buy AMD now because of price. And decisions based on price doesnt make you technically inclined, it makes you broke.

[-peep-].

He wasn't saying you were not technically inclined. He was saying that most people buy Intel because they know the name, not because the CPU is good whereas people who buy a cheaper AMD usually know what they're buying.
Look at it this way; if you went down the street and said to a guy "Do you want this AMD Athlon XP system or this Intel Celeron system?" both at 2GHz he'd probably pick the Celeron.

As for Blackburn Rovers...hahahaha!

AMD Is An Anagram Of MAD, Intel Is An Anagram Of INLET, Cyrix...Ah Who Cares?

I do believe that there are technically inclined pple that buy AMD, some of the might be idiots but, they have some idea whats inside of their computers. That makes sense about Intel trying to keep the OEMs loyal, but i think that if AMD were to advertise and get the word out that they are a good CPU to joe shmoe, that the OEMs would have a choice to who they were going to carry, and that would also make AMD and Intel compete for OEMs, which would lower CPU pricing.
