Whats wrong with my hard drive?

hey guys, i have two hard drives in my desktop rig currently. ones a 3.5" 150gb ide, with a sata adapter plugged into it. the other i aqquired from a netbook, its a 2.5" 260gb sata. i felt like the ide was outperforming the sata, which i though to be ridiculous because, well, its a freaking ide right!? so i ran crystaldiskmark, and here are the results:
c: is the ancient ide, and d: ist the 2.5" sata (the results are in MB/s)

c: 2 runs 100 mb
seq - read: 47.49 write: 50.75
512k - read: 23.75 write: 23.80
4k - read: 0.363 write: 0.763
4k (qd32) - read: .366 write: .782

d: 2 runs 100 mb
seq - read: 51.2 write: 33.23
512k - read: 23.1 write: 21.8
4k - read: .322 write: .646
4k (qd32) - read: .692 write: .683

so the sata has a bit faster read, but why the hell is its write so damn slow?!?! its close to half of a freaking IDE hard drive with a sata adapter on it!! whats going on?

Most Notebook drives are only 5400 RPM
IDE 3.5" drives were made in 7200 and 5400 RPM drives.

what are your model numbers of the HDD's

Speeds of Sata 1 is 150MB/s
Speed of IDE is 133MB/s

so the diff there is not alot. the RPM of the drives will be where the diff of speed comes (7200RPM vs 5400RPM.)

Is it set for ACHI mode in BIOS! If not it is going to behave as an 5400rpm ide drive.

yea the sata drive is 5400, im not sure about the ide, id have to open my rig up to see

In BIOS you can set the SATA controller to work in ACHI mode for the drive or in IDE mode! That is the question I asked, many boards default to IDE mode!

can you confirm the IDE drive is 7200 RPM?

if so that thats the reason for the speed diff. the SATA150 vs ATA133 is not a huge hit on performance. 5400RPM vs 7200 is a big deal tho.

yep, popped her open, the ide is 7200 and the sata is 5400. i definitly thought the difference between a sata and an ide would have been way greater, even 7200 ide compared to a 5400 sata.
