Hey everyone,

I have a question, well questions for all of you guru's out there. Firstly let me give you my specs, to make things easier:

AMD FX-8350 + NZXT Kraken x60 liquid cooling
Asus M5A99FX Pro R 2.0
Patriot 8GB RAM (2x4GB Dual Channel)
Sapphire R9 290
128GB ADATA SSD
500GB WD HD
Corsair 750w PSU 80+ Gold
Corsair Sentry Mesh Fan Controller
Windows 7 64bit

No O.C. on anything. My temps seem to be normal and are as follows:

AMD FX-8350 - Idle 8-10c Full - 28-31c
Asus M5A99FX Pro R 2.0 - 26-28c
Sapphire R9 290 - Idle 38-40c Full 68-75c (it says they can go up to 95c)
SSD/HD - 28-29c

Now! My problem.

My system seems to sometimes "hang" or freeze right up. I've gotten a few blue screens, and some error messages. If I go into Event Viewer, my system is plagued with critical/warnings (this is still after a fresh OS install btw) It seems to do it more when I leave my PC and it goes into sleep/hibernate. When I resume windows, that's usually where it "hangs", bluescreens, or just locks right up. It usually restarts, then asks if I want to boot Windows normally, or in Safe Mode. All of my parts I have bought from Canada computers, except the video card. I'm worried it may be the card, and I bought it private so I cannot return it. I haven't experienced any artifacts in game or on desktop/no weird colours. I have tried the following:

Setting hard drive sleep to 0 (never)
Roll-back drivers/re-install drivers
Installed Windows - same thing happened, used a different disk to load - still getting problems.
Installed WhoCrashed, seems like I'm getting this:

This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x28ECE)
Bugcheck code: 0xA0000001 (0x5, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: CUSTOM_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys
product: ATI Radeon Family
company: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
description: ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver

It seems to do it randomly, It's hard to re-create it again and again.

Any advice will help, I put a lot of money into this PC, and it would be nice for it to just work.

If you need anymore info please ask! And apologies for the novel of a post.

Thanks!

Solution
Well the only way to know what's causing it for sure is to run different stress tests for the GPU and CPU. It could be ur power supply, motherboard, or processor, but from the looks of the error message you got, I think something's wrong with the graphics card.

You could check that by installing a stress test for the gpu- I recommend Furmark or unigine heaven. If it goes wrong constantly during the stress tests, then it's the gpu.

If not, download prime95 and stress test the cpu. If it consistently crashes whenever u launch prime95, then the cpu is the problem.

If both tests don't get you anywhere, run both stress tests at the same time while looking at ur power usage. You could use CPUZ and just see if voltage drops for the CPU and...

If both tests don't get you anywhere, run both stress tests at the same time while looking at ur power usage. You could use CPUZ and just see if voltage drops for the CPU and MSI afterburner to see if power usage drops for the GPU. If power drops for either of them, it's a power problem. That likely means it's the power supply.

So, good luck I guess. I'm just telling you what I'd do; I'm no guru.

Solution
Power supply is brand new, so is the motherboard. Prime95 - no errors. unigine heaven - benchmark, no artifacts, stayed at around 68c and didn't crash. I've been reading some stuff about atikdmag.sy_ files being expanded, but it's not working out to well lol. I appreciate your input though!
