Please imagine for a moment how my GTX 1050 Ti chugs in Far Harbor with the high res pack. Well, at least the little thing overclocks 200Mhz easy...

Anyone want to donate a 980 to the cause? j/k

But does the game perform differently with the high res texture pack? This is my second playthrough. The first one was when the game released and then I played the DLCs as they were released. I don't see a difference in performance at all. HardOCP did a review of it that showed the same thing. It looks better but it doesn't hurt performance. My only complaint was the 45GB size.

At the price of 1070s lately though due to mining, you're better off with a 980 Ti.

I was talking to Bonzo's ghost. His sig shows a 1070. A 980 Ti and a 1070 are about equal. I thought about getting a 1080 or even a 1080 Ti a few months ago but I have yet to play anything my 980 Ti can't completely max at 1440p. Well except Mankind Divided. I really thought Doom was going to be the one that brought the 980 Ti to its knees but it was buttery smooth.

I don't get why you'd think that since Vulkan is proven to be THE most efficient API ever built. You add the fact that Id always shoot for 60 FPS in their games, and it's a no brainer really. Even my 7970 can easily run it at max settings at 1080p.

I really wish more devs would take notice and start using Vulkan.

but, @ >120fps?
anyway trust me, i wouldn't be buying a 1080 Ti just to run a Fallout texture package.

If you look through the conclusion, you'll see that they don't recommend the texture pack for cards with 4GB or less of VRAM, due to - you guessed it - stutter. It was still playable, but the stutter was bad enough that it ruined immersion for me. And on my old fashioned 1080p monitor, the difference in visual quality was minimal.

i wouldn't recommend any modern AAA game for someone with less than 4GB of vram unless you're playing on an old dinosaur 720 or 900p display and can't barely see the effects and textures anyway.

I have started fighting games. A lot of my friends are staying over my place for a week. So I am playing SF and Tekken 7 a lot these days. Tekken 7 is actually good.

finally have gotten into Just Cause 3. like with 2, i don't pay much attention to what's going on story-wise but it is still very entertaining with the amount of destructive options available. very fun game.
have also started Dark Souls III again with the two DLC. have enjoyed all three in the series a lot.

...pulled the trigger...

Finally got to finish Kotor, Kotor2, so naturally I'm now knee deep in SWTOR, that game world is absolutely massive. Keep trying to get along in the story line, my jedi was 48 before finishing chapter 1, just so many other options to do, it's crazy busy.

John, what GPU did you have previously?

I've played over 50 hours of CS Go. Now that's something I thought I'd never do which is playing a multiplayer game everyday. I blame it on having friends to play with. I don't think I'd play as much if I was alone.
I've put nearly 10 hours into PUBG. It's really hard to get kills and you spend a lot of time mostly scavenging for items and then bam, you're dead.

I'm also nearing to the end of Vanquish. It's been really fun so far.

I mostly play RPGs and RTS. (Showing my age, I can still recall the excitement when Ultima lll came out. Stoppedd playing for a long while, Oblivion brought me back into playing.)

For the last year or so, I play others (Total War - Warhammer, Dishonered, etc.) but I still seem to go back to Fallout 4 for my gaming fix.

I loved Oblivion, the mods for it were absolutely amazing. Skyrim, so far, has better mods, but they are geared mostly towards making females really big n bouncy or kill moves. Is kinda funny to see a porn star vampire barbie doll rip the head off a He-man muscle bound brute though...

Speaking of Skyrim, I saw this a few days ago.

The first region has been released.

It looks amazing!

I haven't played Oblivion with any mods. I spent many many hours closing Oblivion gates though. Probably 4 or 5 complete playthroughs over the years. I always loved how good and how different both The Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles DLCs were. Horse armor? Not so much. 😛

Oh no, you gotta do mods. If for nothing else but to make ppl actually look like ppl. I have no idea who scripts the women for Bethesda, but I think they are both blind and batshit crazy. Also fixes stores, can't see the point on expensive equipment when stores run out of cash before you can empty your inventory. Having store owners with 100k accounts is way easier than the 3k. And finally wizards who have access to more than 3 decent spells, really improves the game if you prefer spellcasters to tanks. I use a couple of companion tanks (yes companion mods are great, and my barbie Witch destroys mobs with area spells or single target disintegration. Of course companions like Vilja bring in a whole new bunch of add-ons and quests just to liven things up. Mods are fantastic additions, if used right, if just used to make uber godlike tanks, that gets boring with 1 shot kills.

Oh I modded the crap out of Skyrim and Fallout NV so I know what's possible. 😀

I'll eventually do Fallout 4.

Exactly why I haven't even tried with Fallout 4 yet. Waiting on the script extender to be stable. Hopefully with the GOTY edition coming out soon that will mean the end of updates.

Just now getting back into Fallout 4 after a long time away. Completed the main mission, but I still need to finish up Far Harbor and the Nuka-World DLC. I'm playing the game pretty much vanilla, even though I modded the heck out of Skyrim. Any suggested mods? Graphics mods probably won't be doable with my pitiful GTX 1050 Ti...

Nah, I haven't used any yet. I'm sitting at about 220 hours in my second playthrough. Main quest is at The Battle of Bunker Hill ( where you have to choose a side ) and I literally just got to Nuka World. I pretty much finished Far Harbor. Haven't been playing much the last few weeks. I'll have time to get back to it in another week or so though.

Much depends on the mods. I can play skyrim with 70 odd mods, but most are either character or weapons/armor type mods that even with 4k/8k mods, don't hurt the gpu much, being far more cpu intensive. This on a i5-3570k / gtx660ti @ 1080p ultra and still get a solid 60fps. What really hurts graphically is flors/fauna or cities or weather, area and background mods. Those get highly gpu intensive. If you pick and choose carefully, that 1050ti will have no issues really with mods. Just stay away from high texture packs, especially in heavier detailed areas like Far Harbor. I7-3770K and gtx970 and there's nothing (even over 130x 2k/4k/8k mods including an enb and multiple flora/fauna/cities/weather/lighting mods) that slows me down under 60fps. That whole combination runs 5-6 threads generally, which is most of the reason my i5 doesn't run the enb and many of the high texture/area mods. Fallout 4 uses the same game engine as skyrim, and behaves similarly.

Boooo. :kaola: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/08/bioware-slams-the-door-on-any-more-mass-effect-andromeda-single-player-content/

I really didn't hate it. It wasn't the trilogy which are among my favorite games of all time but it wasn't terrible either and it had some moments. I was hoping for some "we suck so here's some good DLC" action from Bioware.

I'll never preorder another game from them. At least not until the next Dragon Age. 😛
