its one thing making the guitar, its another playing it live

STEVE is a God of guitar. He plays the instrument just like it's some kind of plastic toy. So much perfection and talent ! In fact most of the guitar legends have their own unique fret and chord techniques, and different playing styles.

That's why I usually don't compare any of them with each other, including John Petrucci , YNGWIE Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Eddie VAN HALEN, Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, JOE SATRIANI, GUS G of Ozzy Osbourne band, and many others.

But the choice of a personal favorite guitarist is till subjective, and hey, how can we forget about this Legend ! While there were a lot of great guitarists emerging in the '60s, there was none more innovative than Jimi Hendrix.

His technicality, experimentation with distortion and chaotic brilliance made him one of the most influential and respected guitarists in the history of rock. These solos/riffs are addictive and mind-blowing !

Some of my favorite extreme BLACK Metal/BM bands as outlined below. Just random collection of my old CDs which I own, but the list is not in some basic priority. Just listing them here randomly.

Band name:
ABIGOR. From Vienna, Austria.

Considered as one of best underground BM bands ! The group's distinctive sound makes heavy use of multiple layered guitar parts by members. One thing that makes Abigor stand out from most other Austrian black metal bands is their instruments, which I would describe as what Emperor would sound like if they were a more standard black metal band.

The guitars are very raw in sound, but their composition is slightly melodic, so it doesn't sound too harsh. The drumming is also powerful, as not only do the blastbeats lead in the chaotic riffs, but its slower beat patterns do offer some calmer parts to the craziness. The bass work, however, can get a bit sloppy at times, though those moments are short and don't affect the track too much. Overall, the atmosphere is chaotic, but more melodic and Emperor-sounding.

Continuation of the above post....

Band name: CARPATHIAN FOREST.

From NORWAY. Carpathian Forest was formed in the early 90's and with the downfall of many of the original second wave they disapeared for a while, but with the release of their masterpiece 'Black Shining Leather' they showed that Norwegian black metal wasn't dead yet, and I think that since that moment that has been one of their main objectives.

Their sound has evolved over time, not really maturing so to say, more like crystalizing. On 'Black Shining Leather' and other releases prior they created a sound somewhere in between old school rock influenced black metal and the more epic Emperor sound with keyboards and an ancient atmosphere.

This is once again a continuation of my previous post....

But this time these bands are the MAJOR and the biggest names in Extreme/Black Metal genre. These bands laid the foundation for the Black Metal/BM genre, and some even gave birth to this genre, or re-defined it. These bands are not underground, unlike the bands listed on my previous post.

Band name:
BATHORY, Legendary founder of the BM and VIKING/THRASH METAL genre. From SWEDEN. Dedicated in loving memory of Thomas Börje Forsberg aka "Quorthon". RIP: (1983 – 2004).

52001781_303336770370802_3878892833121239040_n.jpg

He is universally considered one of the starters of VIKING and Black Metal, even if he once stated :

Somebody explained me that today’s black metal scene is inspired by Bathory…how is this possible? Bathory don’t play black metal, Bathory is a band that played death metal, then epic metal and viking metal, but i don’t remember i ever recorded a black metal album. I’m glad to be an influence for someone, but i keep on not understanding how!”

In any case, Quorthon is counted among the greatest innovators of extreme metal, together with bands like 'Celtic Frost' from Switzerland, 'Kreator' from Germany and 'Merciful Fate' from Denmark. Born on 17 February 1966, the cause of his death was an acute myocardial infarction.

Though many insist on making comparisons to VENOM’s early works, this is pretty far removed from what they had done up to this point, and definitely lends credence to front man Quorthon’s assertions that Bathory’s music wasn’t directly impacted by them.

The riff work is the first glaring example of the departure, as it shares more in common with the more aggressive and guitar oriented work of early 'Slayer' and 'Metallica'.

When you're reviewing an album that is definitely a classic and so many people have already given their input on it, it's really hard to say anything that hasn't already been said. This was the case for Bathory's legendary self-titled 1984 debut album, BATHORY. With this release, Quorthon and Co. managed to create an entirely new genre. What we have here isn't something overly technical or musically sophisticated and that's perfectly okay, as this album needs none of those things.

Venom coined the term "Black Metal" with their 1982 album but with this release, but Bathory released the first actual album in the black metal genre. To call this album influential is an understatement and, rightfully so, it is almost universally loved by many fans of extreme metal.

I really like these Extreme metal band logos. I have few leather jackets and trousers/Tees with embedded logos on all sides. But printed in RED color mostly. I have CDs of all of these extreme metal bands.

As the ages went along, it got increasingly harder to read the names of the bands.
last 2 shots in your post are older bands, you can mostly read those.,.. but all the others?
Some like to stand out by using a Font you can actually read

Yeah actually some of the Logo designs are not very clearly legible, but this applies mostly for the extreme and underground Black Metal bands. I can actually figure it out which band is it by looking at their name's logo, most of the time, if not always, since I'm used to it now.

After watching the same logo again and again on my CD, so many times, some of the designs are in my memory. lol. Sometimes though, it is VERY hard to figure out the band's name from the logo, but this mostly applies to all those BM bands. Totally illegible. Some of them though, not all.

But it is pretty damn easy to read Logos of ANTHRAX, SLAYER, KREATOR, OVERKILL, EXODUS , OZZY, AC/DC, KISS, DANZIG, Iron Maiden, SODOM, and few other similar bands.

I guess most of the Heavy metal, Hard Rock, and THRASH METAL bands have clear and simple logos, which anyone can read/decipher.

Btw, do you like FAITH NO MORE band, colif ?

1990.jpg

Pretty good ALT ROCK, Funk Rock, and/or Experimental Hard Rock band. They actually sound very unique. Some of their songs are pretty good. Even actual METALHEADS have praised them a lot for their talent.

But it's hard to say which genre this band actually follows, since they have used a mixture of different music genres. Taken from Wiki:

"Faith No More's music is generally considered to be alternative metal, experimental rock, funk metal, alternative rock, and rap metal; however, as Faith No Man, their sound was described as post-punk. The band's first single from 1983, "Quiet in Heaven/Song of Liberty", was labelled as a "solid post-punk/pre-goth single."

These elements endured during their tenure with Chucky Mosley, with AllMusic comparing their first album to early Public Image Ltd works, and Mosley's vocals drawing comparisons to Bauhaus lead singer Peter Murphy and H.R. of Bad Brains. By the mid-1980s, Billy Gould stated the band were in a "weird spot", as their eclectic sound didn't fit in with the burgeoning hardcore punk and alternative rock movements of the era.

Upon Mike Patton's arrival in 1989, the band began to expand their sound range even further, merging disparate genres such as synth-pop, thrash metal, and carousel music on The Real Thing. Rolling Stone states that by 1997, the band were "too heavy for the post-grunge pop hits of The Verve and Third Eye Blind [and] too arty to work comfortably with the nu metal knuckle-draggers they spawned."

Over the course of their career, they have experimented with heavy metal, funk, hip hop, progressive rock, alternative rock, hardcore punk, polka, country, easy listening, jazz, samba, ska, bossa nova, hard rock, pop, soul, trip hop, gospel, and lounge music.

Faith No More's lyrics have been described as "bizarrely humorous". When interviewed about his lyrics, Patton responded, "I think that too many people think too much about my lyrics. I am more a person who works more with the sound of a word than with its meaning. Often I just choose the words because of the rhythm, not because of the meaning."
