When Does Canon Announce New Printers?

Anyone know when Canon might announce a newer version of the MP780
all-in-one? Included fax software, legal size scanning, full color LCD, and
memory card slots might be nice. Are you listening Canon?

Coming in October, but no fax function. Too bad. Sounds really nice, but I
need on-board fax capability.

Point #1
Not all cameras have Pictbridge, most almost all offer some form of
removable flash memory.

Point#2
If you want to put your images onto CD/DVD you gotta have some form of
slot. While it's true that you can use a usb pigtail or buy slots for
your PC. Not all users want an extra wire or know how to install
something internaly. Printers with these slots onboard provide a
viable alternative for PC file access as well as quick direct image
printing.

Point#3
People lose cables they don't have hooked up to something.

I won't say I use the slots on my mp760 daily.. but they sure come in
handy.

The details on that subject are very vague indeed. For example the
current generation has the mp750 / mp780 which are document oriented
followed by the mp760 which lacks the feeder but has the slide scanner.
Actually the mp750/760/780 are pretty much all the same bloody thing
just with different parts attached and the features enabled or disabled
accordingly.

In theory one could take the NCU and modem from a mp780 for example and
pop it into a mp760, and provided one knew the right settings which
unfortunatly are not documented in the service manual one could have
the color screen and fax ability.... well except the mp760 doesn't have
a numeric keypad.

There is always the imageCLASS series of canon AIO units, but those are
all monochrome lasers and the only entry level unit I know of that has
fax is the mf5750, a unit that costs slightly more per page than the
mp780 the last time I looked.

But it seems canon is seperating out photo oriented AIOs and document
oriented AIOs and putting their engery into photo AIOs. This makes
sense as most of their money is made by ink... and nothing consumes
more ink that those making a copy of their photographs digital or
otherwise.

Worry not.
Canon constantly repackages the its same generation printing technology in
new boxes.
Its called marketing and Canon leads all other manufacturers in repackaging
as new and improved the same old technology printers.

I noticed Canon frequently 'recycles' previous year model by adding an
on-printer LCD-panel and button user-interface, for easier non-PC printing.
They add a "D" to the model-number (example: S900D, i470D, iP6000D, etc.)

This is great for people who just want a quick print and/or afraid of
PCs.

....

I'm somewhat puzzled by this function, as the "PictBridge" standard allows

Oh well, here's to redundant functionality!
Now, Wifi-equipped printers make a little more sense...
