According to Crystal Disk Info, my OS drive, 250gb mx500 crucial is at 78% with 17k total host writes .

I've had it for maybe two years, should I start looking for a replacement or is a disk at 78% ok?

"When to start worrying about ssd health?"

From Day 1 out of the box.

Always always always have a known good backup, and know how to recover.

All drives die, eventually.
Sometimes, quite suddenly, with little or no warning.

Like mentioned above, its recommended to always have some sort of backup in place if you value your data. That said, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the software readout on life span as the only metric. SSDs and drives in general are quite affordable these days. If you are growing concerned about the lifespan itself, I'd consider backing up files time to time to be safe.

Your usage suggests it will last a total of around 8 years before being completely worn out. If I were in your situation I would not be worried about the wear level until it was down below 30% (assuming your important data is backed up).

However, if you wanted to spend the money you may benefit from a larger drive, which are now cheaper than they were two years ago, and tend to wear down slower due to how wear leveling operates.
