I see the new NON-K 13th Gen CPU's were officially announced today.

Do we know when they will hit store shelves (in the USA)?

My understanding is the 13600 NON-K has more or less the same performance as the 12600K at about the same price, but with lower power draw. (Using on a b660 motherboard so don't plan on overclocking).

Several non-Ks are on Newegg right now.

Don't see the 13600.

As I recall, the 12600 was not readily available when the 12th gen CPUs were released, so that may persist on 13600.

Prices higher than hoped for; 13700 is 410 at the cheapest source; 13700F is 380; 13400 is 240.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I heard there was a slight price bump to the 12th gen chips that was implemented the last couple of days, too.

Thanks for the link!!!

To me, they seem very close (more effeciency cores on the 13600 NON-K than on the 12600K, just looking at the specs.

The only tests I have seen have been for Cinebench, and one test for Puget systems Photoshop Benchmarking test (but that was with an i5-13400, not the i5-13600).

I am not sure if they allowed max power though for the 13600, and not even sure a b660 motherboard will allow max power for PL1. (And if it does allow max power, am I really saving anything in terms of heat and power draw by allowing max power for it???)

You may have to be quite careful on any B760 motherboard choice.

If I recall, some of the 12th gen B660 boards, particularly Asus, were noticeably deficient in performance due to power restraints. I think it was MSI and Gigabyte B660 boards that were the better performers.

I have no idea if that will persist on 13th gen boards.

I'd certainly wait for multiple reviews.

The motherboard I ordered is the MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4. It just arrived yesterday from Amazon. Haven't opened it yet.

It is one of the better reviewed B660 boards.

My understanding is with the 12600K chip it basically runs at around 135 Watts MAX all the time.

I think (but don't want to swear by it) that with the 13600K chip it also runs max 135 watts all the time.

Don't know what it runs at with a NON-K chip like the 13600.

I think you have to update the BIOS on B660 boards to accommodate a 13th gen CPU.

Not at all sure you can do that without a CPU on the MSI B660 board.

I reckon you know that and have some way of doing that if you have your eye on a 13600.

I don't want to get involved with that, so am waiting for B760, as well as DDR 5.

Thanks for the note.

I was concerned about updating the BIOS for 13th gen. But in another thread someone said that anything made after July of last year would PROBABLY have the BIOS updated.

I understand that MSI doesn't have Q-Flash, but I think they have something called M-flash where bios can be updated by booting up off a USB stick. But now that I think of it, I don't know if the 13th-gen chip isn't recognized whether I can even boot in to BIOS setting or not. Maybe I will have to contact MSI tech support???

You could be entirely right or entirely wrong.

I think you are right about B660 MSI not having Q flash.

Can't say I ever heard of M flash.

I would not want to rely on "probably" regarding what BIOS might be on a B660 board. Thus my waiting for B760.

I have no idea what response or level of satisfaction you might get from an interaction with MSI support. As a general proposition, I'd rather eat bugs than deal with any tech outfit's customer support.

So, somewhat interesting developments... maybe...

I "chatted" online with MSI tech support last night and they said that the Motherboard tech support people were out (it was late at night in the USA). They did say though that the board I bought was manufactured in December, and they emailed my question to the Motherboard support staff. They said that the Motherboard people will probably email me back "in a couple of days."

Instead, I just got a call this morning from one of the MSI motherboard staff. He confirmed that my motherboard was manufactured in December and that the bios that allows for 13th-gen chips was released in November. So he said that it SHOULD have the latest BIOS on it out of the box.

Of course, no guarantees though.

I am more inclined to take a chance on the 13600 (non-K) chip now.

Thanks for the video.

Unfortunately, that method only works if the computer will post, and without a compatible bios for 13th-gen chips, the MSI B660 boards won't even post to bios.

The MSI B660 boards additionally don't have the flash buttons near the USB port, so you can't flash bios without a processor in the board (the way you can with the Z690 boards).
