Some corporation have say they have see a 10X increase in speed in molecular dynamics.(or it was something else) compare to a EV 68 1GHZ but setup for EV68 was much slower much less ram slower ram less HDD slower 7200 SCsi vs 15000 and others.

To get a version for IA64 will be hard.

If <A HREF="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10292" target="_new">this</A> has an effect on anything, an Opteron 2.0 would approximately go from a (1200/1150) to a (*1.34) = (1608/1150) processor.

But we would never speculate on any spec whether it integer or float.

Dichromatic for your viewing plesure...

Inquirer is always a little suspicious...

...besides, come on, 375% increase? What the hell is that? That would put a 1000-SPEC_FP-scoring Opteron at 4750 points, and that is just plain ridiculous. Quite simply. This doesn't make me a believer. At all.

However the news they reported of the compiler seems quite true. This is, I guess, what Opteron also needs, like Itanium, excellent compilers to perform. Clearly it needs good coding from good credible sources, and a 34% boost possible in Integer is nothing to laugh at. Sincerly, I hope it jumps boats to the Athlon 64 as well. AMD seems committed in this respect, to delivering better compilers and optimization as we can see. I do hope it works, because without it, as I said before, I have little hope in its performance (A64).

On what grounds, exactly? The Inquirer is not that much of a reliable source of information... I wish it were true too, of course.

Anyway, that would still put the top-of-the-line 1.8Ghz Opteron considerably behind the 1.3Ghz (the cheapest) Itanium 2 in floating point/SPEC... if it's right.

yes but the improvement is made vs wich compiler we dont know to say they are outrun intel compiler by 34% is not possible as ICC give a edge of 10% increase in spec vs others compiler to say a little group in portland can increase score of opteron by 30% will close to miracle.

But a 100int point an 50 FPU point increase maybe real (even surly is they can produce good code for SSE-2) and easy to use.If at lease they can produce a 64 bit mode as fast as 32 bit it will be gain for AMD.
