Hi everyone,
I am currently running an ESXi server on an LGA 775 to 771 modded Xeon 5450 paired with Gigabyte's GA-EG45M-UD2H, with 8GB of DDR2-800Mhz RAM (2GB*4 Sticks).
I'm running 4 VMs (pfsense, ownCloud Ubuntu, freepbx and homeassistant) and the processor never even hits close to 60%, however, I'm running acutely short on RAM.
Since Gigabyte's website lists that this particular board supports upto 16GB of DDR2 memory, I thought I could max the memory out and this thing would serve me for another couple of years or so. However, I'm unable to find any NON-ECC 4GB DDR2 (single stick) either on eBay or Aliexpress.
My question is :
1. Since Xeons support ECC memory, will ECC work on this particular motherboard ?

2. What's the deal with AMD only memory ?
