Where do I check my system RAM speed?

I just got done bench Prime 95 testing a new build on stock settings. I also adjusted the timing in the BIOS to get the factory RAM settings up to the advertised speed.

Where on my PC can I go to confirm that my RAM is running at the proper MHz speed? The system display just shows how much RAM is installed and the speed of the CPU. I'd like to see the RAM speed - so I can confirm my settings are correct.

Thanks

Solution

Yes.

Thanks

I D/L that on 2 computers - and neither of them reads anywhere near the MHz that I would expect. Both have DDR3 1600 RAM -

One I'm at now - and I'm reading in the " MEMORY " tab

Triple Channel Core i7

Size 6144 MB
NB Frequency - 3198 Mhz
DRAM Frequency 799.5 Mhz
CL - 8
tRCD - 8
tRP - 8
tRAS - 21
tRFC - 60
CR - 2T

I'd expect something to be at least the default 1333 - but I'm pretty sure this PC is @ 1600 even though I'm not reading it anywhere at the moment. I'm missing something here. Where should I be reading 1600 MHz - to confirm I'm running at the proper speed.

Do I multiply the CR - 2x DRAM Frequency of 800 to get 1600????

Yes.

Solution
mmm... I ve got DDR3 and my command rate is 1T,DRAM Frequency is 798Mhz, hannel band is dual and total size is 6GB (not sure it is one or 2 sticks) so I think the x in DDRx has nothing to do with it, its the CR that seems to matter

I quote "As "nate42nd" already said "depending if you're running dual channel or triple channel, CPUZ will cut it in half or thirds respectively. It should tell you what you need to know."
Therefore, just to clarify for everybody... To know a what speed your memory is running at you need to download CPU-Z, go to the "Memory tab" and look at the memory speed. THEN, you will have to multiply by 2 or 3 if your RAM is either dual or triple channel. DDR2 doesn't mean dual channel and DDR3 doesn't mean triple channel."

dual channel at 798MHz = 1600Mhz ? it d be nice to know for good

DDR = Double Data Rate; i.e. the data is transferred at double the clock speed. Check it on Wikipedia.

It was blanked out for me on the memory tab as well, but it showed 2T for me in the SPD tab, down at the bottom, far right column of the Command Rate Row (second to last for me).

yes, 2x the dram frequency is your operating speed

I will shoot myself in tha HEAD! I done the same on my friends computer... Asus M4A785TDV EVO, i open the BIOS and what i see - memory at - 400Mhz and its Dual channel DDR3 @ 1600 mhz..but after bios update, NO one pay attention to that setting so PC was working for few years on 400, not on its regular 800 Mhz...
I was thinking the BIOS will auto dermine the regular speed....: ((
Someone can tell me why there is no option after 800Mhz..(memory is GAIL 1600 native speed 8-8-8-24)
Ive i want to clock more !? What to do...and i don't see where i can adjust timings...🙁

I know this is probably old but no (CR) or command rate so I multiplied it by two and came out with a number close to 1866mhz which is what the Ram is supposed to run at I take this is correct if not someone help me

I have 2x4gb corsair vengeance pro RAM. DDR3, 666.8DRAM freq, but 666.8x3 = 2000~, There is no 2000mhz Vengeance pro ram. I just need to know what ram I got so I can get 2 more 4gb sticks of the same. Help please

I had made a huge post, @pastebin.com/EJRw6b1u but, maybe it's enough to take note that you wrote: 666.8x3, instead of 666.5x2 = 1333MHz =)

Hey guys, I have Geil Super Luce DDR4 24000 3000mhz at 1.35v memory quad channel kit. It runs on my gigabyte ga-z170xp-sli mobo in auto at 2133mhz.

I set my memory up in the bios to run at 3000mhz via its CL settings. Going by CPU-Z SPD, in box 4 on the bottom right. It says XMP-30022 under that for Frequency I have 1501 MHz. So if I'm not mistaken, I now have it set up running at 3000 mhz right? The Bios, still shows it at 2133 mhz!

Also whenever I use the XMP setting in the bios, and disable Auto which sets the memory to Profile1. It auto detects my memory perfect, but my p.c. wont boot, just a black screen then powers off , only to return to a Bios error boot page...

Sorry, Im a noob at Overclocking anything. This is my 1st ever gaming p.c.! As well, as 1st ever p.c. that I have built! Tia...

I have easier way to find out your ram speed:

open command as admin

start>cmd> right click > run as admin
then type: "wmic memorychip get speed"
(without the " ") then press enter, it will give you the speed of each RAM chip installed on your machine.

Hope this helps.

Very nice Omar_84.

Speed
533
533
533
533

I will go get myself a replacement card for one that makes my machine dive from time to time.
