ive been borwsing through steam the offers are generally mor expensive than buying a disc from amazon. also is steam like the only thing out their??? i heard of EA's humble bundle which went before but do i get that through steam or is their some other company out their doing a steam like service. if i am right that many games are still cheaper on disc, than i should invest in a dvd drive right?????

wrong section yes, couldnt find a gaming one.

Steam is the only good way to get games digitally, origin has their own, but it is simply bad. Steam has some higher prices but for the most part it is fair. And with sales daily which drop prices up to 90% it is cheaper, overall. Especially with the Summer, and Winter sales, which drop nearly all games to at least 75% off. So If you want cheap games the sales on steam is the place to go.

Gamefly also has a similar service, and often has games which Steam doesn't, such as Crysis 3.

Steam does have frequent sales, or sale weekends. You can find a lot of stuff half off or more during these sales. You just have to search through their sale lists.

The big thing I like about Steam, is I don't have to swap disks out for every game I play. DRM is handled by Steam, and you pretty much don't see it.

You can always check a gaming store near you (after about a year most games that sold earlier that year or in November, December the prvious year will cost 1/5th the price). So patience helps allot.

The other thing is timing, timing is crucial, the Steam sales are usually pretty average UNLESS you get the good sales like this autum sale we just had I bought games like Europa Universalis IV ect. for like $10... that's a quarter of the price.

So knowing when to buy is just as important as knowing where. Same with the Origin sale those games are not really priced all that great it could be better to be more tempting...

However you might not get those specific games for that low price anytime soon...

:) Good luck man

Steam is a convienent client just like Desura. There are frequent sales, which help you if you want to get a fairly expensive game for less cash. Overall people buy the game just because they are on sale and cheap. If all games would be expensive, there would be more piracy.

You know prices on steam are really region dependent.
Here's an example, my friend is in USA, Dark Souls II is $50 for him on steam while it's $20 for me (I live in Georgia, the COUNTRY) and even sales are different. And I find that prices on steam are relatively cheap compared to other stores like humble bundle and Origins or G2A or even GOG, it may still be because of where I live (because EVERYTHING is cheaper on steam for me) except for some AAA titles like COD and Assassin's Creed.

I also find Steam to be a better store than any other mainly because there are many sales and frequent at that.

I can't comment about Stores (real life ones) because there are none here, but I think they'll be selling games at maximum price and nobody will buy them because there's a huge Pirate market here. (Literally, Georgian Internet space is full of everything for free, cracked games, movies, animes, videos, programs) and the law that forbids such things is not being enforced, I'm going off subject here so I'll stop here. 😀

Huh well, usually Europeans get screwed over =/. We get the same number as Americans but its like 30% expensive... Sucks to be us. Especially from a poorer country.

I guess prices in Georgia also differ from EU. Mainly because Georgia is not in European Union (even though we're trying really hard). CIS countries probably get stuff for the least amount of money. I can't confirm that though just a speculation. Georgia is not that rich as well...pretty poor as hell country, average salary is like 300 Euros :|

Steam is actually really cheap. You just have to wait for the holiday sales. If you're looking for something more immediate, I use http://www.kinguin.net/

You can buy Steam games extremely cheap from some Russian websites, but you have to watch for regional restrictions and language. Search for them around the internet there is a lot of info about which sites sale games with languages different than Russian and which of them are legit.

I just got an email related to this from Tomshardware, however it isn't showing up on this page and it looks like an obvious virus. Just want to know if anyone else following this thread received it?

DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK!!! I think it's a virus

Hey guys

I have started a thread on my pc build and I would like some advice and critiques on what I should get. I want a few minutes of your time please

Thanks

For some popular games from the big publishers, Steam let the publisher itself to set the price, thus some games are way more expensive than others.

I'm using a points for reward site called pointhall.com to get cheap games. Where is live 50 bucks is a lot of money and i don't want to be labeled as a pirate so this is the only way to finance my hobby.
