Where does gatherer store its info?

I recently reinstalled the game, and lost all its info. I kinda knew this
though as when I updated my mods it would still have the mapnotes and
gatherer locations etc, so obviously no info is stored in /addon/gatherer.

Also is there any specific folders I should be backing up if I want to keep
settings etc?

the "wtf" folder (nice name!) answers both your questions, as when I
wanted to reset my settings and I deleted it, all my gatherer and
auctioneer data went down the drain 🙁(

There is a file called "savedVariables.lua" where all the addon's data is
stored. Out of security reasons, addons cannot store or access files on
your system. They can only declare certain variables to be stored and the
game takes care of this for the addons. These variables containing the data
is then stored in the savedVariables file which resides in a folder that
has the name of your account below the <WoW>\WTF folder.

Starting with patch 1.7, addons can force that their data is being stored
in a separate file, but will not gain any more control. That's probably
being done to faciliate uploading data to the web.
