Where is CPU Fan located in LAPTOPS

A small doubt

All these days i was thinking that in LAPTOPS CPU FAN is located on the processor, but i saw a few motherboard pics and after that i'm in a confusion now. Is the CPU fan located on the processor or is the FAN's Heat sink connected to the processor and video chip with a copper strip to absorb heat and then give it to the FAN.

If the processor is not having FAN directly above it will it be able to manage the heat? will the copper strip be effective in dissipating processor heat???

usually in laptops there are two heatsinks. one heatsink goes on top of the cpu and other on top of the gpu, they are connected with heatpipes to the radiator on the back of your laptop

Hello,

Normally laptops have a heatpipes with liquid in them. The heatpipes normally connect to the heatsink (which usually lays on top of the CPU) which then connect to the fan to dissipate the heat. This is that copper strip your talking about.

However this is not exactly the case with all CPU's. To find out which laptop has what cooling, you might need to watch some videos of people taking apart laptops (with the specific model of course).

One more thing - normally CPU's in laptops are designed for laptops. Hence they usually are a bit smaller/ and are a bit slower than their desktop counterparts.

amazing cooling technology in laptops isnt it!!!! i'm really surprised to see this. i have seen many videos of laptop tear-down, but never heard from any one that there will be a liquid coolant inside.

will this liquid coolant evaporate with time, do we need to refill them?

will liquid coolant be more effective than normal air cooling with fan and heat sink....

please advice......

The liquid coolant will never "evaporate". It is completely closed inside of the heatpipe. There actually isn't much liquid in some of the heatpipes. But yes - a heatpipe with liquid cooling is much more effective than air cooling.

is there any metric based on which we decide the effectiveness of cooling of an exhaust system?

I want to get an understanding of how to decide which cooling system to use when we are dealing with processors, like which processor generates how much of heat in normal usage and which system will be the best for cooling it......

please suggest me some links where i can get this info,

All you can do for laptops is read reviews before you buy to see how hot/loud they are. You don't get to pick the cooling option. Its custom designed and sized for the component's/laptop case.

This would depend on the exact processor you are trying to cool. Remember, different processors run cooler/hotter than others!
