I haven't seen anyone discuss where the power supply is best plugged in.
Based on some recent replies to my posts, Tom's is a VERY international website.
The availability, consistency and quality of electrical service varies greatly around the world.
I've been fortunate to always live in an area with good, consistent, clean electricity and in generally newer housing so the wiring is not a problem.

So, where is the "best" place to plug in your power supply?

1. Directly to the wall socket?

2. A plug strip with surge protection? If so, then how much protection?

3. A UPS? If so, what sort of settings? I'm not familiar with all the settings available, but I believe you can set some UPS to power down your system when the power is interrupted.

Solution
1 designed for this actually.

2 surge protection is nice, I suggest everyone get at least this amount of protection.

3 UPS units will usually have surge protection as well. the UPS is not meant for running the PC while the power is out, it is meant to give you the time to safely shut down the computer with no data loss. the size will depend on your specs and needs. yes many will come with a cable that can enable the shut down process when no one is around. the settings vary by manufacturer as does the software used.

roundup is relatively recent July 15th.
