I have heard that an upcoming AMD A64 CPU will be released capable of implementing some of the SSE3 instruction set. Will this be just restricted to the dual-core version or across the board? In any case will this require a new core logic implementation or will current 939 chipsets (eg nForce4) be capable of using the new processor and SSE3. Digital Media processing is the reason for asking here and whether to get a new system now or wait. Hope someone here has a crystal ball!

A few months ago AMD released a few samples of Rev E A64s that supported SSE3...then they released Rev D a month later, go figure. Since then all has been quiet in terms of AMD and SSE3. It is BELIEVED that AMD will release a new stepping with SSE3 enabled before dual-core processors come out, nothing is really known, however. AMD has also confirmed SSE3 on their dual-core processors but they won't be out for awhile.
