Decided I'm going to SLI two gtx 970s but can't decide which brand to go for. Budget isn't a problem when picking between just the 970s, so if you had your pick of the litter which one would you go for?

Hello Handrewbrozel

I found this solution on a earlier post.

Posted from RazerAddict.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4GB - Fastest, coolest GTX970, great reviews. Even tho it has 3 fans it has less noise than EVGA. Good overclocking potential.

EVGA EVGA GTX 970 4gb - Should be in the middle, however people have been complaining that it is a bit noisy. Have in mind a case with good airflow should fix this.

MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4GB - Best overall, this is what i would take personally. Faster if you overclock it , you get MSI Gaming App with it, just put it on your desktop and overclock the card before getting in a game with like 1 click.

OBS: EVGA do now have GTX 970 ACX 2.0 which solved the noise problem and have other fixes found here

Hope this help you.

What case you are using?
If it is a really small case where the two cards won't get decent airflow then a reference Titan style cooler would be better.
Else any other brand is fine really. Most people recommend some brand like Gigabyte, MSI or EVGA but they all decent.

Informative, thank you, but didn't really make the decision any easier lol. It seems like really I can't go too wrong with whatever I pick, still not sure which one though.

Im not really worried about any noise issues, that doesn't bother me, my computer is loud as shit already. As far as the overclocking software, the msi afterburner software I have will work just as well on any of these right? Or does the MSI Gaming app provide anything extra that makes it worth considering for that alone. Also my computer is pretty cramped so the three fans with the gigabyte could be an issue, especially with SLI it could really kill the overall computer airflow.

Im using the corsair 400r, not really small, but definitely would be cramped by some larger cards.

Bad Idea!!! DO not get 2 970s.... Thats like double the coil whine.... ugh. Its sooooooooo annoying!

Getting coil whine is based on your luck. Most of the time, you shouldn't get it.

Should I return My EVGA 970 FTW and try for a second time? Or what?

You can try but my EVGA SC GTX 970 2.0 has no coil whine. (You can only hear some whine if you put your ear next to it but all GPU will output coil whine, its whether it is too loud or not when you put it in a case.)

My two don't suffer from coil whine and as I run them at 99% load 24/7 I think I would have heard it by now.

EVGA has started an Advanced RMA process for me, they will be mailing me a new FTW, and then I send my other one back with free shipping. Good guy EVGA! Fingers crossed for less coil whine on the next card.
