Can you guys help me on this?
Could you recommend a card with the following info.
My psu is 420w generic.

9600XT-256mb $175
9800SE-128mb $209
X700-256mb-
ddr2-128bit $219

I wonder how is it that X700 is cheap?

All in singapore dollars. 1.65 exchange to 1$US.
Thanks for the help.

Make sure the X700 is AGP assuming that is what you need. It is a plain X700 not a PRO, that is why it is priced near the others.

OK, honestly, I don't like your choices and would wonder what a 9700 pro, 9800 pro, 6600GT, and 6800le would cost. All much better cards. But of your choices, I'd say the X700 would beat out the others by a little in almost any game. The 9600XT is about equal to the rare 256-bit 9800se and ahead of the more common 128-bit 9800se. So forget the 9800se (*sorry Wusy*).

This July Digest from Digitlife shows how the 9600XT and X700 compare to other cards. In part 4, click the games and resolutions that are important to you. You'll see the X700 probably beating the 9600XT, but also see other cards blowing both away. Before buying you may want to check out the prices the faster cards I mentioned above.

Yep, don't bother with the 9800 SE, or the 9600XT at this stage in the game.

6600GT's are great, better than X700's, you should look into those if you can afford it.

As far as the X700, I'm actually one of the folks who think that the X700 gets a bad rap and is a pretty good card in some budget segments. The non-pro version still has all 8 pipelines enabled and still has the 128-bit memory bus, so it's a good overclocking choice if it's cheap enough.

LIke Paul said though, for comperable performance look for a 9800 (NOT LE or SE!) or a plain-old 9700. A 9700 PRO will outperform both the 9600XT and 9800 SE, and they're cheap like borscht.

9600XT beats out the 256-bit 9800se by a little bit in most games they tested. Farcry was an exception.

9600XT is a more expensive card than the 9800SE, so at those prices the 9800SE is a rip-off. The 9800SE isn't even a 9800, it's a 9500 non-pro with a slightly revised chip.

I think 9500 non-pros actually came with 4ns or 5ns RAM.

If only my 9800SE 256-bit came with Samsung instead of Hynix I'd be clocking up even higher records.
Yes, but you'd still be living in artifact city.

9800SE-128mb $209
X700-256mb-
ddr2-128bit $219

i mean the x800xl is around 240 or 250, weird. and in some stores that's with shipping, and i'm sure you can get this in ebay.

No, that's only for the special model based on the 9700. The normal model came with 5ns by spec, or 4ns if you were lucky.

No, the rest of us were talking about standard cards built to standard specifications.

But I thought you were talking about those early silly-ATi-mistake 9500NP like the one Cleeve owned?

Hey, that was a great card for the money I paid, you ah heck.

Modded to 8 pipes with no problem. Back in those days a 9500 PRO was still a force to be reckoned with...

Are the prices high?
Damn !!!
I thought they were the cheapest here in Singapore.
That's what it's retailing for down here.
But considering I buy from ebay wouldn't the shipping charges at up the same?
Could someone advise me on that. Thanks

Your 9800 pro price is very high. Others aren't that bad. Check pricewatch and select cards:video to get an idea of online USA prices. Or you could also just looks at newegg.com as they have a huge selection at pretty decent prices.

Prices here in Canada are ridiculous. Expecially for any 6800 NVidia cards.

---------
AMD64 3000+ @ 2.2GHz 1024MB Ram
ASUS K8N-E Deluxe NVidia NForce 3 250GB
MSI 6800GT AGP @ 385/1104
2X120GB SATA150 7200 Raid 0
385Watt Quiet Power

Generic 420W, sure it will. No problem with a 9800 pro on that PS. What's the 12v rail rated at?

Scottchen advised me before that this psu may not support the high draw on power. I'm using P4 2.6c stock speed.

While on the subject, is there any utility that features overclocking as well as underclocking. I want oc when i'm running the pc, not when it's idle, like when i leave it on overnight.

Thanks
