I am looking to sell my console and build a PC. I have acquired some parts from a friend of mine and need a CPU and GPU. I have watched a video on bottlenecking recently and would like to know what approach I should take when buying a CPU. I would like to buy a Ryzen CPU but wondering which to go for. It seems the Ryzen 5 5600x is still a really could one to buy but I noticed the Ryzen 7 5800x is also at a good price.

The current parts I have are:

Corsair RMX1000
NZXT Kraken Z73 360mm cooler
Corsair Vengence pro RGB 4 x 8GB 3600mhz DDR4
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite motherboard
1TB M.2

My friend has offered me his RTX3060ti for £250

Is it worth getting the Ryzen 7 5800x so that I can upgrade the GPU in future? Or save the money and stick with a Ryzen 5 5600x. Or is it potentially worth saving up to get a better CPU/GPU combo going into 2024? My monitor supports 1440p not 4K which I have no plan to upgrade right now (not sure how relevant that is)

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you for your response!

I certainly have some decisions to make! Also, I had no idea Intel made GPUs!! I honestly think I may wait for the RTX 4070 Super at the beginning of next year. It's rumoured to be retailing at £500 apparently which I can save for. I suspect that would also bring the price of other cards down?
yep intel has done well for themselves and there drivers have improved alot there highest card which is the a770 16gb which is really the only card worth mentioning isnt a bad card per say just the high idle power is like 35w when it should be like 8w its comparible to a 3060 or 7600 roughly

battlemage is support to make a appearance next year which may shake up the market further.

i will say they will most likely bring the card in at 500-550 super card while dropping the 4070 to 450-500.

considering i have been looking at the market on gpu pricing you can suspect if there releasing it for 500 msrp then retailers will do it at 508 or 520 ( looking at you overclockers lol)

i went from a 2060 super to a rx 6700 did all the ddu and reinstalls etc still played games with murky ass graphics or had to tweak the <Mod Edit> out of it in the amd software to look playable. as ive said if your plug in and play nvidia is way to go if you are fine with tweaking cards to get more performance then amd is fine.

i spend 11 days with a rx 6700 trying to get it to play ball with cyber punk 2077 and tales of arise. several of my older titles that i could play on my nvidia 2060 super where unplayable on the rx 6700.

Interesting. I’ve not had that experience but sounds almost like you had issues with ddu perhaps. I’ve had amd cards since the hd 7850 and owned a 7950, though I’ve owned a few nvidia cards like the 9600gt and gts 450 for example.

But myself I’ve just come to prefer amd. AMD isn’t perfect but nvidia to me as time goes on seems to have slimy business practices that’s just my opinion. Things like jacking up gpu prices a couple of years ago during mining, though amd did the same thing.

But nvidia for example after raising prices on their 3000 series then release a new series with the most expensive cases ever made. Granted they have the right but many of us remember when 700-800 bought the best gpu made.

The other thing with nvidia I don’t care for is how they seem to cut down on vram, as well as how they created dlss for example after raising prices, then when dlss 3 arrived, basically said oh that’s for our new more expensive 4000 series cards. However amd made their fsr 3 technology which is getting better, available not only to their new cards, but their older ones and many older nvidia cards also.

There are other reasons but I digress. But nvidia to me comes across as more money hungry and less caring.

Also for example look at cards. Yes the nvidia 4070 looks like a great card, and amds 7800xt is pretty comparable to it. However, amds 3 year old rx 6800 xt is comparable to both and many times can beat the 7800xt.

Here’s an example to consider. The rx 6800 non xt and rtx 3070 launched in 2020 about the same price.

It could be argued that if you keep your cards a long time that the amd may be staying relevant longer.

Anyway that’s just my preference.

Right okay, I will keep an eye on both of these. I did use a site called stockinformer for my series X maybe I could use something like that to keep an eye on when it releases? Or is it best to just keep checking the site every day?

Just before product launch or immediately after product announcement, there will be option to register as a valid buyer in retail websites.

just like how we register or prebook for a phone purchase.

Well, guys I have done some thinking and I think I am going to go with AMD this time around. I know just need rot decide on a GPU. I could get a 7800 XT but it was supposed to replace the 6800 and the 6800xt is practically on par with it.

Or I can buy a 7900XT Or do I just buy a 7900 XTX and keep that for 4 years or so I an only imagine it would last me a long time

If I’m not mistaken the 7900xtx basically competes with an rtx 4080. A friend of mine went from an rtx 3090 to the 7900xtx and loves his. I’ve got the 6800xt that I recently got on sale for $439 and I’m happy enough with that. It depends what you want to spend.

In my opinion avoid gigabyte this go around. The same friend had issues with gigabyte (his new card was a gigabyte) and he ended up doing an RMA with them, buying a new card and selling the one gigabyte sent back. I think I saw some nvidia cards from gigabyte as well were cracking. Personal preference. I’d say though powercolor, AsRock sapphire etc you should be good.

Hmm I think I am going to just buy the 7900 XTX to be honest. Then not have to worry. Hopefully AMD get better with RT over time. I am not too fused about that atm though. What I know can't decide is which vendor to go with. Thank you for your info though I will definitely stay away from Gigabyte.

See I was going to go for the XFS one but there are other options available. I like the look of the XFS one but I have found the powercolor hellhound for £929.99 which is like 60 quid off. Which is generally considered the better brand out of the two.

Do I just spend a bit more and get the ASUS. I have also been told Saphire is the best for AMD cards. So do I just pick up one of those? So many choices to make when building machines its quite the task but certainly fun

powercolour one is fine but i would buy a gpu bracket for it as that sucker is one heavy card

nah ran it in several machines ive owned 7850 from amd
rx 460 etc I still use amd for some things but i just find there drivers unreliable. though ive heard same from nvidias side as well at times just less cases.

i have put it down mostly to drivers that and certain monitors don't seem to like amd either.

i agree nvidia is no saint im well aware the 4070 really should be 100 pound cheaper.

amd has followed similar bussiness practices as well the rx 7800 xt ( cough 7800 is pretending to be a 7800xt).

my next gpu will be nvidia but ill be looking at intels gpus both a770 and battlemage i am going to run some of my own tests and image quality on both nvidia and intel.

Powercolor and sapphire have been around for years as gpu manufacturers you should be safe with either of them.
Well, I watched a video on the xfx and it had the two sapphire cards I was looking at and the XFX was beating the one sapphire card and matching the other. The Sapphire nitro was £100 so I ended up buying the XFX card

also if your looking for a cheaper 7900 xtx

still recomend bracket.

there is also

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT

which is 1 lower then the 7900 xtx
