So I think i'm going to be upgrading my CPU and Motherboard and I'm not sure what to go with the 2 I have come down to is the FX 8350 or the Intel i5 4590 I will be doing mostly video rendering/editing and some gaming like CSGO MC GMOD and a few others. They are the same price right now at Microcenter $159.99 and I also need help with choosing a motherboard I don't plan on OC'ing.

Solution
Get the i5. What ever small benefit the FX "may" have in some applications is outweighed by its poorer gaming performance and efficiency.
For video rendering and editing, definitely go for FX-8350 (I would go with FX-8320 since 8350 is pretty much a slightly overclocked 8320). It will be a good CPU for the gaming you want to do as well.

There are good CPU+mobo deals in Microcenter so yeah.

Pfff what? It doesn't matter that it's outdated. It is better for his situation and that's what matters.

Intel CPUs have better support and features, plus AMD mobos are utter crap.

Get the I5 if you only gona do gaming because it sure is better then the AMD for gaming but if you gona do Gaming and video rendering get the AMD 8350 becuase of its 8 cores makes sure to get a decent cooler for the AMD cpu because those heat up a lot

On Cinebench 11.5 CPU rendering test, my i5 4690k scores 6.9 at 4.2GHz, and according to youtube an 8350 scores 6.8 at 4.0 GHz (multi threaded speed comparison)

On Hyper Pi, my i5 can calculate 1 million places of Pi in 9.5 seconds, where the AMD takes about 19 seconds (single threaded speed comparison)

Therefore, when rendering, the AMD will be the same speed as my i5. If you overclock the AMD more, then it will be a bit faster, but you probably won't notice much difference in use.
When doing gaming or any single threaded task the i5 will be literally twice as fast.

And that is why I don't recommend AMD for anything.

Hi Evexium,

For video rendering without a doubt it will be the 4590 that will be better. I have been video editing for many years and for some reason intel CPUs are favored. Even for games the i5 has awesome single core performance that really makes it shine in all apps. It will never be second.

As for motherboards any of these 3 is good. I like ASUS or Gigabyte http://motherboards.specout.com/compare/3002-3003-3477/Asrock-Fatal1ty-H97-Performance-vs-Asrock-H97-Pro4-vs-GIGABYTE-GA-H97-D3H

Hope this helps,
Gabor

He wants to play CS:GO, GMod and MC. I played those games on an Athlon 4400+ with 60 FPS. Now tell me the FX won't be able to. My friend has FX-8320 paired with GTX 660 and he can't be happier with it.

AMD motheboards are trash? Where did THAT come from? That is one huge generalization.

Also, lodders, you are comparing an overclocked expensive i5-4690K while he is asking about i5-4590 which he will probs pair with an H97 board. He said he will NOT be overclocking.

You are comparing an 8 core to a 4 core in rendering. FX's cores are weaker, I know, but it's hugely underrated.
