Which CPU to avoid bottleneck at 144Hz?

Hey community!

So, I recently bought a new 144Hz monitor, just to notice that my i5-7500 bottlenecks my GPU (GTX 1070) while trying to get higher framerates in games like R6S, Destiny 2 and Black Ops 4.
My CPU would sit at 100% usage at all times while my GPU would go to 60-80% max. All of this while playing on low-med settings in FHD, so nothing too fancy.

Obviously, I need to upgrade my CPU. Which CPU would you recommend? i7/i5 9xxx is out of the question for me, those are just too pricey.
I looked into getting an i7-7700k (which I could use on my existing setup), as well as an i5-8600k or a Ryzen 7 2700x, both of which I would need to upgrade my mainboard for. Which choice would be best for me, seeing as I'd like to maintain a stable 144FPS in the above mentioned games?

If you want to move to the 8th gen Core i processors you're going to need to change the board. Do you have a budget for your upgrade? On another note, please state your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Yep, that's my problem, exactly. Will I be fine with an i7-7700k at 144Hz or should I look into upgrading to a more recent CPU and accept the fact that I'd need to buy a new mainboard as well?
As far as my budget goes: I don't really have a budget, but preferably as low as possible.

My specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i5-7500
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 OC ITX
Mobo: Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3
Cooling: NZXT Kraken X62
RAM: 4x4GB HyperX Fury DDR4
SSD: Samsung Evo 500GB
HDD: Seagate Firecuda 2TB
Monitor: MSI Optix MAG24C
PSU: Seasonic 650W

Im genuinely surprised you are having issues. my old 4690k can happily run framerates pushing past the 144fps at FHD... Have you done much testing to confirm the cpu is the issue? checked all other processes that are running at the same time?
