Which DELL computer should I buy?

If you have to get a prebuilt system then go with Mesh computers, or another company that has a reputation for good value and performance. I can't see why everyone doesn't build their own, except for having a lack of confidence in themselves. I think that an idiot could put a computer together if they read the right websites, and save themselves from being fleeced in the process.

I want to use it mainly for software development (C++/java applications)...that's why I need 2 GB ram, fast HDD, fast processor...

I had 2 DELL computers so far and I am quite happy about them...why should I not buy a DELL computer?

Dell makes good laptops and sucky desktops. They are not the same Dell that kicked everybodies butts 2-3 years ago. The quality is no longer there as they have driven the price down to the bottom.

They use the BTX form factor and propriatary cases so it's not east to fix anything. Repair and replacement parts are VERY expensive. I just spent nearly $500 repalcing the MB on a lightning struck laptop. It took four calls and nearly 4 hours of phone time to get things moving. Dell's customer service now rivals Packard Bells in their hayday in my opinion.

If you don't want to build your own, find a local shop that builds ATX copmputers and have them put the components together. You will get better quality and an upgradable system.

Oh, Dell does have some fine LCD's though...

Its kinda funny to post what kind of Dell to get on a Hardware forum where 99% of the people here has put together their own computer here.

Build your own system and have pride in it.

i agree its much more fun to build one your self and it saves money.

Core 2 is just catching up with Athlon compiler speed and the 6300 will not bridge the gap. If you want one of those go for the 5000+. EVen the Intel compiler runs faster on K8.

Google K8 compiler tests.

Take your romantic relationship with AMD somewhere else, forum scum.
pc++;

EDIT: The 5000+ is faster than the E6300, but I have to troll BaronMatrix's posts.

The 5000+ is obviously faster than the E6300, I never stated otherwise.

I troll your posts because they're troll FUD posts. I fight trolling with trolling.

Find the post where i spread uncertainty about Intel. Sure I believe like everyone else that the FSB is antiquated and has problems when saturated, merely because north bridge and south bridge and memory requests have to share the FSB. K8 separates the requests. All mem IO goes over HT.

It still works though. Look at Kentsfield.

FUD is the fear, uncertainty, and doubt that IBM sales people instill in the minds of potential customers who might be considering Amdahl products.

How about providing the link instead. It is a question of man hours. For you, who obviously has already searched and read the links it would take a minute or two, but you expect everyone else to do this work.... again, it does not do you well to take this approach.

I could not possibly remember the location of every review I have ever read. It never seems to matter anyway. Hell, even posting a souvenir blue badge hasn't mattered.

good an easy question, NONE, dell are shit

if you are toparaletic to build one at least get a mesh

(and if someone put a gun to your head go with the core 2 duo system)

i hope this helps

Please, please, please don't buy a Dell. They are ok machines for normal tasks, but a more powerful machine can be built with only 2 hours of time and at half cost at least.

And, its fun to do.

My point was missed. Here it is in big bold letters:

Buying from a PC Hardware Store (which builds the system and installs the OS and drivers for you, all you have to do is plug and play) is far, far better than Dell for the following reasons:

- Better Price
- Better Parts
- Better Performance
- Better Service

There is no reason to get a desktop from Dell. None.

Thanks.

To end on an ontopic note.

You have heard that the 5000+ is faster. If you want a Dell, buy a Dell. I have used Precision and Dimension and Optiplex. Dimension or Precision will serve you well. MS uses them to test Windows (Maybe MS put pressure on them so they would have REAL AMD64 machines to test post-VistaX64 with). Optiplex is for secretaries(low-mid Office app use) and HTPC\web surfing.

Due you can get a Dell. 😳

Couldn't help it.

When we say "don't buy a Dell" we mean to say "don't pay more money for less stuff," a sound economic principle.

Check out the USD 720 monster article. Try to configure a system that powerful at Dell.com, you'll see a final price three or four times that.

I recommend you do not pay 3 or 4 times as much for an inferior product.
