Hello-

I'm looking for a desktop monitor. Primary use is browsing, docs, power point and excel. No gaming. May occasionally view a live game. Screen real estate is important since I want to have multiple docs open side by side.

I'm coming from an apple cinema 27" Non retina display that I loved. Will be driving this display with a Apple MacBook Pro (retina)

I am looking at two options:
Samsung 32" WQHD LED Monitor (S32D850T)
27" Dell U2715H UltraSharp QHD (2560x1440) IPS LED

They both are the same resolution but the dell is a 27"ips vs the Samsung is a 32" va. The Samsung is$ 200 more as well. Ideally, I'd choose a 32" IPS but that is in a different cost bracket altogether.

Given I will be using it for computer work does the ips panel matter? Are there other advantages of the ips for my usage?

I'm leaning towards the larger Samsung...but am wondering about the loss of IPS and cost tradeoff.

Thoughts?

I haven't gotten to use one my self and would really like to. The BenQ BL3200PT using the same panel got a really outstanding review here at Tom's. (I think it's cheaper than the Samsung too, you can get it new for $600.) I've long been addicted to my 32" 1080p TV as my main screen. I've been wanting higher resolution and quicker response for a while too. The QHD VA 32's deliver on those fronts. If not for finding out about freesync, I'd have bought one over a year ago. The reviews suggest it will be a great fit for your needs.

Sadly, I don't think anyone will be re-releasing that panel in a new product with variable refresh rates while everyone is trying to get into 4K. I'm currently trying to wean myself off the 32" so I can buy and...

I'm currently trying to wean myself off the 32" so I can buy and enjoy an MG279Q. It's hard to go down 5"! I miss that my 32" can sit much farther back at a very comfortable viewing distance and still fill up my field of view nicely. I'm borrowing a 1080p 27" right now and it's about as fine a dot pitch as I'd need or want for normal use without using scaling. Especially if you can pick one up somewhere with a short, no questions return policy, definitely give the 32" a try!

yeah I'd not worry about IPS if its not being used for photo/video editing where color accuracy maybe critical. the Samsung is a nice screen and looking at reviews has a great picture too... I vote the 32 in
