Trying to decide which GPU to get. I'm tempted to get the AMD because the 5700xt seems to get better frames in BF5, but I'm worried about heat and the poor drivers I've been reading about. This 5700xt is the only one I've found with decent reviews that didn't have complaints about overheating, otherwise I would of went with the $390 XFX. Which of these should I go with? Or something else around $400. Will be matched with a 3600 or 3600x, possibly overclocked.

I think it's a good plan. The 1070 is more than enough for 1080p and you can upgrade the graphics card when you're ready to pull the trigger on the 1440p display.

If you're going to go with an AMD card you want one from Sapphire, much as if you get an Nvidia based card you want one from EVGA. Yes, there are other brands but if you want the premiere brands for each camp those are the two you look to.

In this case, at that price point, the XT is the better option. If you were able to stretch the budget and were leaning a bit further towards the Nvidia side of things then agree with you on the driver support and heat but in truth for 400 bucks it's hard to beat that card you have listed.

The next question becomes whether or not you have a power supply that can adequately support that card or not?

What is the EXACT model of your power supply OR the power supply you intend to use with it, and if it is one you already have then how long has it been in service?

I have a EVGA supernova 650w 80+ gold. It's 2 years old and I plan to use it in my upgrade build.

I have a EVGA 1070 but I can't afford a EVGA 2070, all I've seen are around $500, I really need to be $400 or less

What resolution are you gaming at and what are the rest of your hardware specifications?

My current monitor is 1920x1080 144hz, but I'd like to move up to 2560x1440 144hz at some point.

Current build which is really struggling
I5-4690
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW
EVGA Supernova 650w 80+ Gold
H97 pro gamer mobo
16gb DDR3 1600

Build I'm working on
Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600x-deciding whether to do the 3600x and run it stock or 3600 and overclock it
MSI b450 Tomahawk max or Gigabyte X570 Elite
GPU-To be decided
16gb DDR4 3600
EVGA Supernova 650w 80+ Gold
WIll get a better cpu cooler if I decide to do the 3600 and oc

I'm upgrading because I get freezing(just happened typing this), blue screen error, and horrible fps drops. I believe my old cpu, mobo, and slow ram are the problem. I often have multiple google tabs, youtube, discord, and a game running, so it's really struggling. The reason I'm considering a GPU upgrade is to ensure I'll be getting 100+ fps in games, especially BF5 and BF1.

Ok, so if you're going to pull the trigger on a new platform and move up to a 1440p display, then you're on the right path. The XT is the best choice for 400 bucks. It has higher average AND minimum/1% frame rates across the board at 1440p, which is what you should be most concerned about anyhow.

Obviously your 4690 is a hindrance, so don't expect to see a consistent improvement in FPS until you swap platforms.

I'd stick with the Tomahawk max. It's less expensive, and unless you plan to run multiple M.2 drives, and unless you plan for them to be PCIe 4.0 versions, there is very little to compel anybody towards X570 at all.

Go for the platform now and stick with your 1070 until you can upgrade. I just upgraded from the Ryzen 1700x to a 3600. It was a nice upgrade.

I think you'll find that your 1070 performs well with that ryzen setup. I have a 1660 super which is close to the 1070 performance wise.

That said I can see myself wanting to move up later this year or early next year. But it will probably need to be the level of a 5700 or higher.

Thanks for the help yall. I'm going to go with the Tomahawk to save some money and it has pretty good reviews, as long as you don't use it for a heavy OC with a 3900x or something like that. I don't plan to run 2 M.2 drives. I'll put either the 3600 or 3600x on that board.

I think I'll try my 1070 and if I'm not happy with the frames I'll get the 5700xt. I've also started looking at the 5700, it is really close in fps and cheaper, so maybe I'll go that route.
