I recently upgraded from my first 1080p 60hz Panel and went with the BenQ ex3501r (3440x1440, 100hz, Freesync). The issue is I only have a 1660ti which, while it was perfect for 1080p at high-ultra settings, I don't want to run everything medium-low to be able to get a satisfying frame rate. I'm considering selling the 1660ti (5 months since purchase) and upgrading.

What would you suggest I upgrade to?

Solution
3440 x 1440 @ 100 FPS ~ 4K @ 60 FPS

^ Knowing this should make it easier for you personally make a decision on what GPU performance is needed. Pick three main games that you play, then look up those games on YouTube with the GPU that you think you might purchase. e.g. "Apex RTX 2080 Super 4K".

Addendum: Keep in mind that since Nvidia unlocked g-sync on freesync displays, you should be able to max out settings in game, and enable g-sync, and still experience a very enjoyable frame rate experience, even with lower FPS. This of course assumes that your game play remains in the 48-100Hz range of your Freesync display: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/benq-ex3501r-curved-freesync-hdr-gaming-monitor,5621.html

Depends largely on budget and how important high/max settings are to you, anything from a 2070 up to a 2080Ti.
I would be happy with high settings, but I want to utilise the refresh rate of the monitor. It also doesn't support G-sync so I was considering a 5700 / 5700 xt, since they're cheaper and ray-tracing isn't so important to me

What I would do: If I were in your position, I would enable g-sync now with the 1660 Ti, and max out the graphics. If the FPS dips below 48 FPS, then I would incrementally lower the graphic settings "just" enough to consistently stay above 48 FPS in game. If you do that, then g-sync should coordinate the GPU and display frames, and your "frame time consistency" should noticeably improve. Only then would I make a decision on what GPU I might want to upgrade to.

as the others have mentioned you will need a high end gpu to be able to get 100+ fps at 1440p
but it also entirely depends on what games you play
some newer games are very demanding:

I think your monitor require at least a 5700XT / 2070 Super but ideally a 2080Ti or 2080Super if you don't want to spend 1200+ dollars

Just for my curiosity....have you tried the 1660 ti and gaming on that monitor? Curious what kind of performance you got. I have a 1660 ti and thinking about getting an ultra wide. Just want to know if I can hold on to my 1660 ti for a little before I need to upgrade. I am sure I will have to lower the graphic settings but I am cool with that. Been scouring the internet for a solid answer on the 1660 ti and a 1440 ultra wide.

Currently really only playing Destiny 2 on the PC.

I have tried it and it isn't bad at all! I don't play Destiny, but so far I've tried: Dirt Rally 2.0 (getting around 60-70 fps on medium-high settings), Fortnite (easily getting 100+ on medium-high setting, but using Vsync so I don't know how much higher it could reach), GTA V (55-70 fps on mainly medium settings).

All of these have been perfectly playable, for me. There have been a couple of stutters in GTA but nothing that couldn't be fixed by lowering a couple more settings. Temps for me have gone up from 58-63°C to around 62-68°C. Still not getting a lot of fan noise on the standard fan curve.

I'll definitely keep mine for a while and keep an eye out for good deals on the 2070 (super) and 5700 xt. Till then, I'm happy

Awesome, thank you very much for the response. Been really debating about an ultra wide or a dual monitor set up. Your response will for sure help me out!

It's much better than I was expecting to be honest, it gives me time to wait for prices to come down on the better GPUs!
