Which is a better graphics card: FX5600 Ultra or FX5700?

Which is a better graphics card: Geforce F X5600 Ultra(8X, 128 MB) or
Geforce FX 5700 (8X, 128 MB)? Also, does the FX 5700 consume more
power and dissipate more heat than the FX 5600 Ultra?

Compared to the $180.00 5900XT they both stink. Why not buy the 5900XT if
you don't want to spend a lot?

Ugh... back to the original question...

The 5700 is based on a better chipset revision and core. Most use the
..13 die process, have better thermal dissipation, much better RAM
(GDDR3) and are clocked higher than normal 5600's. The 5700U is an
excellent card and will beat a 5600 by a good margin on any given benchmark.

I agree the 5700 will beat the 5600 -- I said the 5900. The 5900XT beats
the 5700ultra on Doom3 benchmarks -- which means it is better for the newer
games. So again, why buy an older card? The 5900XT is newer and
apparently, better. And not too expensive.

You are comparing the 5700 to the 5600 -- I'm comparing the 5700 to the
5900XT.

.... which is completely irrelevant, given that the OP asked which was
better, the 5700 or the 5600 Ultra.

Its like me saying which do you prefer, red wine or white wine? And you
replying "Orange juice".

Agreed, except that the 5900xt will accomplish what he wants for probably
similar dollars. With no difference in taste.

So it is more like asking, which is better a 45 inch tv or a 48 inch TV --
and I point out you can get a 50 inch TV for equivalent dollars as the 48.

I agree with you eric.Good pointers are always nice to read.
But what about the power drain?I heard somewhere that the 5900 really needs
alot of juice.
More then the 5600,so how does the 5700 compare to that?

Nah -- I have a starndard 350 watt power supply. No problems. It is when
you get up to the Geforce 6 series that you really need to worry about
power.

One thing is -- the 5900xt requires that you connect power to it (like a
hard drive). Never had that with a vid card before. Don't know if the 5700
or 5600 requires that.

....and in fact quality rather than quantity is really the key with
powersupplies. I have even seen someone running a GF6800 *Ultra* in a
Shuttle with a 250w PSU!

My PNY GeForce FX5700U has a second connecter. The doc's say minimum 250w
supply.
