Which is better for recording and gaming a 4 core or a 6 core processor

I'm buying a custom gaming pc I plan on using it for recording,editing,etc aswell so would I be better off getting a 4 core processor or a 6 core processor

Quad core should be enough. Depends on the degree of work and amount of performance you want though.
Also more cores mean more heat and thus more cooling requirements. Although any CPU intensive work(like processing) is not recommended with the stock cooler anyways.
 
A 6-core will definitely allow you to edit and render videos more quickly if that's what you're into. As for regular gaming, you won't be seeing that much of a difference between the two.
 
i would suggest getting a 6 core as i have a 4 core and it works well with editing but rendering the final product can be very slow sometimes , but like chilledgrease said for gaming quad core is enough
