Which is better suited?

I have a i7 4790k but looking to get a good GPU to work well with it in my new build. The options im currently looking at are the:

ASUS STRIX GTX 980 4gb
EVGA Geforce 780 sc 3gb

Which would better suit my needs for gaming and streaming? Also im looking into getting a newer MOBO, does it matter if i get the cheapest options or does it matter if its any good?

980 hand down. Its a whole generation newer and will have great performance with your 4770K.

As for motherboards, I wouldn't get a crappy one, but it doesn't have to be really expensive.
