im wondering which of the two is faster

an overclocked Core i5 750 or an overclocked Phenom II X6 1055T

according to this test, an overclocked Core i5 750 4.15ghz has a huge lead vs an overclocked Phenom II X4 965 3.99ghz

i haven't found a direct comparison of an overclocked core i5 750 vs overclocked Phenom II X6 1055T yet

will the two extra cores and extra cache will be enough to beat an overclocked core i5 750?
-in video encoding
-in multitasking
-in gaming

any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

in video encoding maybe... in multitasking - well that is relative to what kind of multitasking you're talking about... if you're talking several internet windows and a game, then go i5. If you're talking autocad, photoshop, internet, and coding all at once then Phenom. for gaming the i5 for sure.

i was thinking the same thing but looking at those results and massive lead of core i5 over a phenom ii x4

i really want to see an actual comparison of an overclocked Core i5 750 vs an overclocked phenom II X6 1055T

the only results that i have found so far is an overclocked Core i7 930 vs an overclocked Phenom II X6 1090T
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/04/27/amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-black-edition/5
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/04/27/amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-black-edition/6

when i first saw that results, i was shocked to see that an overclocked Phenom II X6 1090T 3.87ghz is just as fast as a stock Core i7 930 2.8ghz
and when the Core i7 930 is overclocked to 4.3ghz, it absolutely destroy the Overclocked Phenom II X6 1090T

The core i7s and the i5 750 show tremendous speed boosts when overclocked beyond 4 GHz.So I would not be surprised if the i5 overtakes the Phenom II X6 even in video encoding as well as multitasking and games of course.Thouh the performance difference would be close, at least in video encoding.

any links, videos, benchmarks, charts, etc showing a direct comparison of overclocked Core i5 750 vs overclocked Phenom II X6 1055T would be nice :)

I'm telling you that the i5 really stretches its legs when overclocked. It can easily go past 4 GHz with proper air cooling while even the Phenom II X6 1090T can only reach up to 4GHz stable according to Tom's.The i5 is a real gem when overclocked.

I5-750 has 4core and 1055 has 6core and overclocking 6core is harder than 4core.
overclocked 1055 is same 1090t(about).in photoshop gaming and excel i5-750 is better than overclocked 1055t but in other field 1050t is better than i5-750.in gaming if you play in high resolution 1920 or 2560 there is no big diffrence between them and in some new game that support 6core better like battlfield 2 1055 is a little 1,2 frame is better.pay attention to that in future the program will support 6core better.

Overclocking x6 core AMD chips is no harder than x4 chips, simple!

The i5-750 will be faster in all the modern games we have right now when overclocked!

The 1055t holds its own in gaming and will not be a bottleneck in any game we have right now unless 480 tri-sli when a OC 980x is best!

Multi thread software such as handbrake favours cores, x6 AMD for the win here

Multi-tasking, what do you want to do at the same time, I run LOTRO in window, Handbrake conversion, I-player and browsers on a daily basis, no problems with my x6 amd!! and I am sure there will be no problems with i5-750

Onlt real difference is the platform they sit upon..

890fx is better than p55/h55

x58 is better than 890fx but much more expensive..

OC on my 1055t is easy 4ghz with decent temps,( have had it over 4ghz 1.55v) I have settled at 3.8ghz as It performs flawlessly in everything I do ( HD Gaming, Multi-tasking, content creation everything--)

i5 750 is fast, very very fast..

x6 1055t/1090t is better value for money on 890fx

i7 930 on x58 is still performance king with 980x the fastest desktop chip ever made!

Personally, setup dependant, (X-Fire / Sli or 4x Xfire .. Tri / Quad Sli)

x58 i7 > 890fx x6 > i5 p55 h55 > 790fx x4 > i3 > pretty much everything else!

tnx for the very nice links moricon :D

everything is now clear in my mind

Gaming @ overclock Core i5 750 > Phenom II X6 1055T

Software/Applications @ overclock Core i5 750 < Phenom II X6 1055T

Edit: i also found a very interesting thing

when both over clocked, Core i5 750 consumes considerably less power consumption under load

so my conclusion is:

an overclocked core i5 750 is a much much better value for the money in terms of gaming, software/applications and power consumption

No problem raclimja

thanks for the best answer.

On side note, yup, confirmed here, 1055t really does start to use power when you OC it, it really does suck the juice straight from the wall..

Alsoi5750 is right choice for p55 and p55 is good if you stay within the boards limit, best get a great single GPU rather than trying to xFire two GPU!
