I don't know if I am ready to drop over $700 on a good IPS 144Hz 1440p monitor. So, which of these 2 is the biggest upgrade if you had to choose just one?

I haven't tried 1440p. I was considering it tho. But 1440p @ 60 Hz. Didn't sound enticing.
So I bought 144hz 1080p.
I would NOT go over 24 inches with a 1080p panel. Have not heard a single good thing about that. Pixelated image etc. So if you aim for 27 inch or something, I would seriously consider 1440p.

Btw, I can't stand 60 Hz anymore. Vsync lines are so annoying, even when web-browsing.
I'd say unless you play a ton of shooters, don't go for 144hz but go for image quality. 60Hz is always fine as well.

If you are really serious into FPS, then 144Hz might really bring you into a new world for FPS

I will be getting a 980ti. Here is my build so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rVwmVn. I will also be streaming my gaming with this computer. I have been reading about issues people have with trying to stream when they are playing at 144hz. If that is what I choose, I want to make sure I know how to get everything working properly for my stream before I buy.

I have only gamed at 1080p, so I was just curious what was the biggest "wow" for people when they first tried 144hz and 1440p. I will be playing and streaming all types of games, including FPS. What's going to give me the biggest "hot damn! This looks amazing!" reaction? Whichever I choose, there must be a definitive way to stream it without any issues with OBS Studio.
