Hi all,

I have chosen the option of a Corsair power supply to add to my current build which I've listed below.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KXK2KX

I was going to choose the CorsairRM850 in white, as there is no RM850x currently around, but have seen a deal for a more powerful power supply.

The Black Friday ongoing deal for £134.99 for the Corsair RM1000x SHIFT is what I was looking at.

Would there be any pros/cons to getting the 1000x with the extra wattage if it means spending an extra £4.99 which I'm fine with doing. I don't particurarly need that much headroom but for £5 extra, would this not just be futureproofing if I upgrade my system later on? I think using a 1000W power supply could cause issues or not draw equal performance potentially?

P.s - I'm planning to upgrade GPU to most likely a 4070-S sometime next year.

Thanks,

Going with the 1000w unit is not a problem and will not cause any problems. The system will eat what it needs to eat. The only "problem" you might find is that with such a high capacity PSU and a moderately lower capacity need from the system, there will probably be some small amount of loss due to efficiency at low draw or idle states. But you're talking maybe a few dollars per year of waste at worst. If you plan to upgrade to a 4070 Super which comes with a recommendation for a 750w unit, you'll be fine. Honestly, the 850w unit is more than enough even if you upgrade, but it's not going to hurt anything to have the extra power AND you might just avoid any issues that might have occurred due to transient spikes because of the headroom.
