I looked that both of these processors but they look about same but I need the best for animating/gaming

FX 6100 Vs Core i5 2500
What one better

Solution
Going to outperform both & put you on the latest Intel socket with ddr4 ram included.

Very little point buying an fx or ivy/sandy even if its cheap as chips.

Hmmmmm I might do that can u list a cpu with a quad core because I need a quad core processor for half of the gaming and stuff i do and all the lag I get in my game is by my proessor because it cant keep up with my GTX 750 TI SC my i3-2120 cant handle it. Sorry if i'm being picky or rude just want the best of this 250$

if would be difficult to find a decent quad core CPU and keep it in your budget. at least with this setup you can get your computer backup and look into upgrading to one in the future

Well I don't need the better ram memory right now this 8gb of ram is good for now. I'm upgrading gpu memory, ram memory and other stuff in the furtre but cpu motherboard and psu need to be replace. Btw I got amazon prime so I get free shipping u can u can find parts on amazon

There is no quad core option in your budget. Any AMD chip you see in your price range that says quad core is not really a quad core but a dual core with 4 virtual cores (so bassically hyperthreading) and is no better then your 2120.

The G460 is 4 generations newer then your 2120 and will run games significantly better.
It is hands down the best option for your budget setup. Down the road you can upgrade to an i5 or i7

just to clairify i meant you could go for that Pentium CPU now and upgrade to a quad core i5 or i7 CPU in the future. but it all depends on the urgency and you budget to get your computer working again

Sorry if i'm being hard or rude

^ this - buy into an old chipset with ddr3 and you'll be stuck there for a long time.
The pentium is hyper threaded like your old i3 but offers 40% (minimum) single core Performance improvement , vastly more efficient hyper threading & memory throughput.
& as stated the option to upgrade to a proper quad core in the future.

If you MUST have a quad at least then the fx 6300 or 8300 & a half decent board are within your budget new - I'm one of the staunchest and fans on here but still would not recommend them at this point in time when the ryzen quads will be available at $130 come April.

You would be insane to consider an old 965 at that price mate - seriously .
Even an fx 6300 will utterly crucify it.

With that build you do need new memmory as the newest Intel and AMD platforms both use DDR4 memory and you have DDR3 memory,.

At this pont though, how much better is a 4th gen low end i5 vs a kabby lake?
I am sure it is sitill better, but probably not by enough to make it worth shelling out $225 for 2.5 year old tech.
