Which Thunderbird

In my constant dreaming of building a new computer, I have set my mind on an AMD T-bird, but I'm not sure which would be best.
System planned:

Asus A7V so it would be a socket A
Therefore a T-bird with 256K cache.
Which speed. No overclocking planned.

How much are you planning to spend? Are you going to be using your system for games - and to what extent? Other purposes of your computer?

Whatever you feel you need. I mean i do a lot of heavy graphics and mapping for half-life, so i need all the CPU power and ram that i can get. But for an average user 800-900mhz would be fine. 256mb of ram is a definate. With ram prices this cheap, get it while u can!!

Go have a look at www.scan.co.uk/today.htm
they have a great deal on today , but as a general rule go for 800-1000 they seem to be the best Price Performance CPU at the moment

Trying to balance between price and quality, and here it is.

AMD Athlon 1Ghz Thunderbird Socket A 256Kb

Asus A7V (socket A, KT133, UDMA100, AGP 4x, ATX, 3xDIMM)

IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30.7Gb (UDMA100, 7200rpm, 8.5ms, 2Mb

IBM Deskstar 75GXP 15.3Gb (UDMA100, 7200rpm, 8.5ms, 2Mb

ATI Radeon 32Mb DDR - AGP 4x

Creative Sound Blaster Live! Player 5.1

Aopen CRW1232 (IDE, 32r12w10rw, 4mb internal)

Aopen HX08 - full tower, ATX/micro ATX/Full AT, 300W


If anyone has any information about why I shouldn't get these parts, please say.

i had a question regarding the asus a7v... i recently bought all my parts for my new system and was wounding if the asus a7v could handle a 1.2 tbird? becuase thats what i got... thanks.

I would get A7V133. It has all same specs as A7V but runs at 133 FSB instead of 100.
