Which to get first: Better GPU or 120Hz Monitor

Hi.
So recently I've decided to replace my current GPU, which is radeon 6870 XFX with an amd 7950 3Gb, however I was advised against this and was instead told to get a decent monitor, my current one is an hp 60hz with a 1680x1050 resolution, and the one that was recommended to me the most was the BENQ XL2420T.
So what do you think? Keeping in mind that after I buy 1 of them, it'll take me around 1 year to get enough money for the other one, which should I get first?

Well, your monitor does not even go high enough to display HD in true resolution, so yeah, getting a better video card is sort of pointless. Get a new monitor now, worry about the video card later.

I think I would shop for a good monitor now.

1. Monitor prices are not likely to go down much. In comparison, a year from now, the advances in graphics cards will get you more for your dollar later, compared to now. Your 6870 I still a good card.

2. Unless you are intent on 3D gaming, I would not chase a 120hz monitor.

3. I would look first for quality of display and find a IPS panel unit.

120hz monitors are to expensive now for what you get. And iwouldn't advise paying $300 for a piece of trash crap quality LCD monoitor just because it displays 120hz.

I would spend a good quality $200-$300 on a good LCD/LED 60hz 1080p monitor. That way you have full HD..

Hmm.. From what I've been told and seen (both online, and an actual friend who owns a 120hz monitor) it makes a considerable difference in gaming (specially on counter strike).
And please explain why does the 120hz have worst quality? I thought it would have great quality.

I personally don't see the point in getting a 120Hz monitor if your graphics card is outdated. Having a monitor that can display 120 frames per second is only useful if your graphics card can actually render them. In games like CSGO or Team Fortress 2 which both run on a 10-year-old engine, you could could be fine. However in newer games with DX11 features and all settings maxed out, the only way you'd get even past 60 would be by lowering your graphical settings.

And downgrading visuals for framerate above 60 is never worth your money. If you think it'll give you a tactical advance in online shooters or make you a better player in general, then I can assure you that the benefits in having a 120Hz monitor are very very marginal and your money would be much better spent on a new graphics card or something else.

I have not seen either monitor.
But the LG is apparently a IPS monitor at a very attractive price.
