Which was your first GPU? :)

I suppose I will also say the first card I got myself that did not come with a PC was a Radeon 9600 256MB for $100 back in early 2005, then a few months later got a Radeon 9550 256MB for $90 for the PC at my dad's house. Those were the first GPUs that were actually owned by me.

Went to wal-mart and found a Nvidia Geforce MX4000, the box made it seem fast by its description, but I was just getting into computers and didn't know better. Used it for 1.5yrs for Enemy Territory. Since then X850PE, X1950XT, 8800GTS G80, X1650GT. All of them are running sept the X850 was sold.

Also had a Nvidia Riva TNT2 but it came with the computer. I don't think I ever played any games with it. It couldn't play ET so thats when I got the MX4000.

The original 3dfx voodoo card 1997. I remember playing NHL 97 and superbike after installing it and my jaw dropped. The thing was 300 bucks, lots of money for someone in 10th grade.

I believe the first computer I had was some form of Dell that probably used integrated graphics, but then I used some birthday or Xmas money to have my dad buy me an ATI 9000 series card. Not sure which one, but I remember he said it was the 2nd best on the market, so I imagine it was the 9800 or something.

The first GPU I know for sure was a GeForce 6800 that came with another Dell machine of mine.

Now I run a 7600GT.

I'm with a couple of other guys here. My first GPU wasn't a GPU - it was a 3d accelerator. 3dfx Voodoo 4mb. Ahhh quake II open GL.....those were the days. Remember that funky dongle?

I was a die hard 3dfx'er until they folded. My last card with 3dfx was the voodoo 5 5500 agp. After that I got myself an Nvidia 4600. 😀

god... wow... umm, think i might have run a diamon something or another waaaaay back in the day. then i moved up to a Voodoo something or another... All i know is, that Voodoo card rocked for a long time. Didn't Nvidia buy Voodoo? I know someone did...

Yea, Nvidia bought out 3dfx. However, I believe this was around the time they were testing the Voodoo 5 6000. I remember I couldn't wait for this freakin card to come out. It required so much extra power than the AGP bus could supply that it was the first card with a 4-pin molex power connector AND it came with an external 'Voodoo Volts' AC power adapter. How cool would that have been? Plug your video card into the freakin wall.... whooo! gives me chills. Of course there's a wikipedia on it - in case anybody wants to look :)

I had an integrated ATI Rage Pro Turbo that just wasn't cutting it in games (I couldn't see under water in Half Life!) so I went out and bought a Voodoo 3 3000 and was blown away by the difference. Everyhting just looked so good and the colours were so vibrant.

After that, Geforce 2 MX 400, Geforce 4 Ti 4600 (still using) and have just ordered a 9800 GTX to tide me over until the proper next gen cards come out and reduce in price to something reasonable. 😀

Trident 1MB for 2D paired with an Orchid Rightous 3D 4MB card. I think I had the Orchid over clocked; I can't remember. I did have a heat sink zip-tied to the GPU...

First I didn't even know that graphic cards existed. Then I got a Dell X600 with a Dell machine in 05 and played cnc Generals with it. I was Stoked. Then I just recently got a 7950GT (dirt cheap on ebay) I was even more stoked when I ran Crysis on MEDIUM! Now a 8800GT on the way (from the RMAed 7950GT 😀) Im going to be way more stoked.

Probably an Oak 256K ISA. In a 386sx-25 with 1.5 MB. This was my first PC, but not my first computer.

Later, I upgraded to the Diamond SpeedStar 1MB ISA, powered by Cirrus Logic 5442. I loved that card. I still have it.

C-64 for the ultimate win. Amiga 500 for tenacious 2nd place.
