im building a computer using the am2 socket,

and i wanted to ask which set up would give me better performance

amd 64 3800, 7900gt, and 512 ddr2 800 or

amd 64 3500, 7900gt and 1gb ddr2 800

im just not sure how much of a difference the more ram will make on games like bf2, and wow

and will i see $600 worth of performance on a system with these ram/cpu/gpu compared to my old 2200xp, 6600 256mb, 1gb ddr?

thx for the help

3500 and 7900GT is good but 1Gb of ram is still not good enough if you want to fully use your cpu and graphics card's potential, that is if your into gaming and stuff.

AMD 64 3500 + 7900GT + 2Gb DDR2 667 = very good for multitasking and gaming.

Well in that case then just stick with the 1Gb of ram then but make sure to buy the 1 stick of 1Gb not 2x512Mb, why because when you upgrade to 2 Gb it would certainly be better than the 4x512Mb plus 2x1Gb of ram is sligthy faster and better than a 4x512mb of ram.

Now if you're into overclocking then a high quality DDR2 667 or 800 is better, since it gives you more overclocking headroom and speed and stability. But if your not into overclocking then a more affordable value ram is great for your set up. I have used 2x1Gb ValueSelect DDR2 553 for gaming before and it plays BF2 and FEAR at high settings and quality with no problem.

So that said, if you want overclock then a high performance DDR2 667 or 800 would be good. But since you cant get 2Gb right now then just get 1x1Gb of stick. If you're not into overclocking, a 2x1Gb of DDR2 533 value ram would do the job.

Okay I have done some research in Newegg and I found out that the Value ram and XMS ram at 2x1Gb have only $30-$40 in difference, so then you should go for the XMS series, for it gives you great performance and great overclocking support as well.

that ram would be perfect. I love G.Skill ram. GET IT!

I would get the 3500+ 7900GT and 2GB of DDR 800 ram from G.Skill.

If you could then get an aftermarket cooler; AM2's OC like crazy
